My client is an established and growing business within the construction industry. They support large scale projects on all kinds of commercial properties in build and upgrade projects. The business requires a Finance Manager to lead finance and accounting across the business and manage a small team. You will work closely with the Managing Director and Senior Management Team, providing commercial support across all project areas. This is a permanent role based on-site at the company's offices in Basildon.

Key areas of responsibility will include:

  • Oversee all bookkeeping activities, including purchase ledger, sales ledger, and general ledger
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of invoices, payments, and receipts
  • Reconcile bank accounts and maintain financial records
  • Manage monthly management accounts, implement prepayments/accruals, and track project profitability
  • Manage cash flow to ensure the business meets its financial obligations
  • Monitor debtor and creditor balances, ensuring timely collections and payments
  • Implement effective credit control procedures
  • Along with an external provider manage payroll and payments
  • Oversee the processing of CIS returns
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns and liaise with external accountants/auditors
  • Work closely with project managers to monitor job costing and profitability

This is a broad role creating a varied workload, providing a vast array of support. Successful candidates will have relevant finance knowledge, ideally gained within the construction industry, including knowledge of CIS returns and contractor payroll. They use Sage 50 and experience of this system would be highly advantageous. Ideally AAT qualified, having the key experience and the ability to manage your workload independently is key for this role.
