The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, the Operations Manager will lead day-to-day operational delivery across installation and project teams, ensuring the continued delivery of high-quality, compliant, and efficient services at scale. The successful candidate will act as the company’s Nominated Technical Person (NTP) and Gas Safe Representative, providing technical leadership across gas and Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) operations while supporting tendering, pricing, and programme delivery. This is a critical leadership role for an individual who thrives in a fast-paced operational environment and has experience managing field-based service, repair, and installation teams within a regulated sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage day-to-day installation, service, and operational activities.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time, and to the highest quality standards.
- Oversee operational performance, productivity, and service delivery metrics.
- Manage installation programmes from mobilisation through to completion.
- Identify and implement process improvements to support operational excellence and future growth.
- Act as the company’s Nominated Technical Person (NTP) and Gas Safe Representative, serving as the primary point of contact with the Gas Safe Register.
- Ensure compliance with all gas safety legislation, industry regulations, and accreditation requirements.
- Maintain oversight of engineer competency, technical standards, and quality assurance processes.
- Support Gas Safe inspections, audits, and corrective actions.
- Provide technical leadership across gas and ASHP installation, service, and repair activities.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to operational team leaders.
- Develop high-performing teams and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Promote effective communication and collaboration across operational and support functions.
- Support pricing exercises and tender submissions.
- Provide technical and operational input into Social Housing and Local Authority bid opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with commercial teams to align operational capability with contract requirements.
- Hold responsibility for operational budgets and cost control.
- Monitor financial performance against targets and identify efficiency improvements.
- Support forecasting, resource planning, and operational investment decisions.
Essential Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years experience in a senior operational management role.
- Significant field service management experience within a service and repair environment.
- Current Gas Safe Registered Engineer with valid ACS qualifications (domestic gas installation, service, and repair).
- Proven technical background in Gas and Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs).
- Capability to act as the company’s Gas Safe Representative (technical compliance, engineer competency, audit support, liaison with Gas Safe Register).
- Experience acting as a Nominated Technical Person (NTP) or in a senior technical compliance capacity.
- Proven installation and project management experience within a fast-paced, medium-to-large organisation.
- Experience managing operational teams and driving delivery performance.
- Strong understanding of industry regulations, compliance requirements, and accreditation frameworks.
- Budgetary control and financial management responsibility.
- Experience supporting pricing, tendering, and bid submissions (Social Housing / Local Authority sectors).
- Full UK driving licence.
- Delivering large-scale energy efficiency, retrofit, or renewable energy programmes.
- Working within social housing, local authority, or public sector frameworks.
- Knowledge of government-funded energy efficiency schemes and regulated installation programmes.
