The role carries end-to-end responsibility for the organisation’s technology capability, including Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations, enterprise applications, IT infrastructure and service delivery, cyber security, data and integration, strategic technology partners, and digitally enabled business transformation. While the Technology Director will operate at a senior leadership level, they will maintain a strong understanding of the technology landscape and provide direct input where it matters most, from high-impact decisions and complex escalations to the management of critical incidents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute a business-focused technology strategy, roadmap and operating model, ensuring priorities, investment and delivery support organisational growth and operational performance.
  • Provide strategic technology advice to the Executive Leadership Team, balancing investment opportunities, emerging technologies, commercial priorities and risk, while establishing clear governance, budgets and performance measures.
  • Set the strategic direction for Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations and the wider application landscape, leading technology-enabled change and ensuring successful adoption, integration and realisation of business benefits.
  • Ensure secure, resilient and cost-effective technology services across all locations, covering infrastructure, end-user services, devices, Microsoft 365, identity and access management.
  • Lead the organisation’s approach to cyber security, resilience, continuity, disaster recovery and technology risk, providing decisive leadership during major incidents and driving lasting improvements.
  • Establish a clear approach to data and integration, improving data quality, ownership and accessibility while enabling reliable reporting and meaningful management insight through Power BI and other approved technologies.
  • Own the technology budget, investment cases and strategic supplier relationships, ensuring strong commercial control, measurable service performance and value from technology expenditure.
  • Build a high-performing, accountable technology function with clear ownership, strong leadership and sustainable internal capability, reducing unnecessary reliance on external consultants.
  • Develop trusted relationships with operational and functional leaders, ensuring technology decisions are grounded in business priorities and deliver tangible value across the organisation.

Measurement of Success

Success in the role will be reflected through a clearly defined and business-aligned technology strategy, supported by a practical roadmap that focuses investment on the organisation’s highest priorities. Key technology programmes, including the successful implementation and adoption of Dynamics 365, will deliver measurable business value and sustainable improvements. IT services will become more dependable, secure and responsive, with a continued focus on enhancing the experience of colleagues and customers. The role will also strengthen cyber security, business continuity and overall technology risk management, while improving the quality, accessibility and integration of organisational data to support better decision-making. In parallel, effective supplier management and team development will ensure the organisation has the commercial relationships, service standards and internal capability required to support its future ambitions.

Person Specification

  • Exceptional ability to understand complex business priorities and convert them into clear technology strategies, investment decisions, delivery roadmaps and measurable outcomes.
  • Significant experience owning and evolving enterprise ERP environments, with strong knowledge of Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations and its application across finance, procurement and operational processes.
  • A track record of leading complex technology and ERP transformations from strategy and implementation through to organisational adoption, optimisation and measurable benefits.

  • A mature understanding of cyber security, risk and operational resilience, with experience establishing effective controls, continuity arrangements and disaster recovery capabilities.
  • Proven ability to manage substantial technology investment, contracts and strategic suppliers, with a focus on commercial value, performance, accountability and sustainable outcomes.
  • A confident and credible senior leader who can communicate complex technology issues clearly, influence decision-making and challenge constructively while maintaining strong relationships across the organisation.
  • Experience creating high-performing multidisciplinary teams, developing leadership capability, clarifying accountability and building sustainable internal expertise.
  • Experience operating in multi-site, multi-entity or service-led organisations where technology must support operational requirements, high service expectations and business continuity.
  • A track record of rationalising applications, addressing technical debt, improving architecture and creating a simpler, more sustainable technology environment.
  • Demonstrates curiosity, commercial awareness and a forward-looking approach to emerging technology, using innovation selectively to improve efficiency, insight, customer experience and organisational capability.

Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
