In-house Property Legal Counsel (Utilities & Infrastructure Focus) in Birmingham: Hybrid working.

We are working with a high-profile infrastructure organisation seeking a talented Property Counsel to join their legal team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on complex, large-scale projects, providing specialist property law advice with a focus on utilities and statutory undertaker matters.

The Role

As Property Counsel, you will provide high-quality, commercially focused legal advice across a broad range of property matters. You will support key stakeholders and contribute to the successful delivery of major infrastructure projects, ensuring legal compliance while minimising risk.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Advising on a wide range of property transactions including acquisitions, disposals, leases, easements, and licences.
  • Supporting matters involving utilities, telecoms, and statutory undertakers.
  • Drafting and negotiating complex legal agreements and bespoke documentation.
  • Managing your own caseload of property and compulsory purchase matters.
  • Assisting with development, construction, and infrastructure-related legal issues.
  • Providing clear, practical advice to internal stakeholders, including senior leadership.
  • Supporting the management of external legal advisers and budgets.
  • Contributing to the development of templates, processes, and best practices.

About You

You will be a qualified solicitor with strong property law experience and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.

Essential requirements (must-have):

  • A working knowledge gained in-house or in private practice dealing with government departments, utilities and/or transport undertakers.
  • A working knowledge of negotiating and completing legal agreements, easements, acquisitions and disposals, and legal processes relating to utilities, telecoms, and other statutory undertakers.
  • A minimum of 3 years' post-qualified experience.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Strong technical expertise in property law.
  • Experience advising on infrastructure, development, or construction projects.
  • Ability to manage a varied and complex caseload.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritise effectively.
  • Experience working within budget constraints and managing external legal support.
