THE ROLE:
The role involves undertaking all aspects of criminal defence work within the firm’s crime department. The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload, providing advice and representation from the police station stage through to proceedings in the Magistrates’ and Crown Courts. Responsibilities will include preparing cases thoroughly, drafting legal documentation and ensuring compliance with professional standards and legal aid requirements. The role requires effective case management, the ability to prioritise workload in a busy environment and a commitment to delivering a high standard of client care. The candidate will work closely with colleagues and external professionals including counsel, court staff and the police.
THE CANDIDATE:
The successful candidate will be a newly qualified Solicitor and/or Duty Solicitor with a strong interest in criminal defence work. The candidate will demonstrate a good standard of computer literacy and keyboard skills, together with excellent organisational abilities and a high level of attention to detail. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, are essential. The candidate must be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team and to perform well under pressure in a fast paced environment. A full driving licence and access to a car are required due to travel commitments, with a car parking space provided.
