Are you an experienced Employment Solicitor looking for a role that offers something different from the traditional fee-earning route? We are working with a highly regarded national law firm looking to appoint an ambitious Employment PSL in Birmingham, with a unique opportunity to help establish and shape the firm's Employment PSL function from the ground up.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced employment lawyer who enjoys being at the forefront of legal developments, knowledge management, training and best practice, and who wants to play a key role in developing the infrastructure of a growing national practice.
The Opportunity
This is a genuinely influential role. You won't simply be stepping into an established PSL position — you will have the opportunity to create the role, develop the function and make it your own. Working closely with the Employment team and senior leadership, you will:
- Establish and develop the firm's Employment PSL function.
- Monitor and analyse key developments in employment law and assess their impact on clients and fee earners.
- Produce high-quality legal updates, briefings and know-how.
- Develop and maintain precedents, templates, guidance and other knowledge resources.
- Support fee earners with complex technical and legal queries.
- Deliver internal training and knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Develop the firm's employment know-how and knowledge management strategy.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiency and consistency across the team.
- Support the preparation of client briefings, seminars and external-facing employment content.
- Work closely with the wider PSL and knowledge teams across the national firm.
- Help develop a consistent employment offering across the firm's offices.
About You
We are looking for an experienced Employment Solicitor who has excellent technical knowledge and is ready to move into, or further develop, a PSL/knowledge-focused career. You may already be working as a PSL, Senior PSL or Knowledge Lawyer, or you may be an experienced Employment Associate/Senior Associate who is looking for a new direction away from fee earning.
You will ideally have:
- Strong technical knowledge across a broad range of employment law.
- Excellent research, drafting and analytical skills.
- A genuine interest in legal developments and emerging employment issues.
- The ability to translate complex legal developments into clear, practical guidance.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Strong organisational and project-management abilities.
- The confidence to work with senior lawyers and stakeholders across a national practice.
- A proactive and entrepreneurial approach to building something new.
Why This Role?
This is your opportunity to build something. You will have the freedom and support to establish an Employment PSL offering that adds real value to the firm's lawyers and clients, while working within the resources and infrastructure of an established national law firm. For an Employment lawyer who enjoys strategy, technical work, innovation and knowledge sharing, this could be a particularly exciting career move. If you're an experienced Employment lawyer who wants to step away from the billing clock and play a strategic role in building a national employment practice, I'd love to hear from you.
