We're supporting a rapidly growing construction and infrastructure group, part of a £400m+ multi-company organisation, in the appointment of a Senior Sustainability Environmental Manager. With a strong pipeline of major projects valued between £6m and £100m+ across the UK, this is an excellent opportunity to join a thriving business in a key leadership role, driving environmental performance and supporting continued growth.

The Role

This is a senior leadership position responsible for driving environmental compliance, performance and best practice across multiple live construction projects, while managing and developing a small team of environmental professionals. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing strategic and operational environmental leadership across the business
  • Managing and mentoring a team of Environmental Managers
  • Overseeing environmental compliance, audits, inspections and risk management across live projects
  • Supporting pre-construction activities, tenders and bid submissions
  • Driving continuous improvement of environmental management systems, including ISO 14001
  • Leading environmental initiatives across waste, materials management and resource efficiency
  • Supporting contaminated land management activities, including Materials Management Plans (MMPs) and CL:AIRE DoWCoP compliance
  • Working closely with project teams to embed environmental best practice throughout project delivery

This role offers a blend of strategic oversight and regular site engagement, with significant visibility across the wider business.

About You

Strong environmental management experience within the construction sector. Previous experience leading teams or managing environmental functions across multiple projects. Excellent understanding of UK environmental legislation and compliance requirements. Strong knowledge of:

  • ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems
  • Waste management, permits and compliance
  • Materials Management Plans (MMPs)
  • CL:AIRE Definition of Waste: Code of Practice (DoWCoP)

Able to influence stakeholders at all levels and drive environmental improvements. Comfortable operating across multiple sites and project teams. Proactive, pragmatic and solutions-focused approach.
