Health & Safety Contractor Location: Manchester / North West (with international travel) Contract: Initial 6 months, potential extension Rate: £450-£500 per day (OUTSIDE IR35) Working pattern: 5 days per week The Opportunity We are working with a global investment organisation looking to appoint an experienced Health & Safety Contractor to support an exciting international EHS compliance and management systems project. The organisation is currently implementing a new global EHS compliance platform, and needs a hands-on Health & Safety professional to take ownership of reviewing existing arrangements, identifying compliance gaps and supporting the successful implementation of the system across its international offices. This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping and improving Health & Safety standards across approximately 8–10 countries, working closely with UK-based colleagues, international teams and local service providers. Initially offered as a 6-month contract, there is a strong possibility of the assignment extending further. The Role You will take responsibility for assessing existing EHS arrangements, ensuring legal compliance and helping establish consistent Health & Safety processes across the organisation, while recognising and accommodating local legislative requirements. Your responsibilities will include: Supporting the implementation of the global EHS compliance platform. Reviewing existing Health & Safety management systems, policies and procedures. Conducting compliance assessments and identifying gaps against relevant legislation and organisational requirements. Developing and implementing practical procedures, ensuring these are adopted and signed off by local teams. Working with office managers, facilities teams and external service providers across multiple international locations. Carrying out occasional site assessments to understand local operations and verify that compliance arrangements work in practice. Supporting a varied range of workplace risks, including office Health & Safety, facilities management, contractor management, refurbishment projects, DSE, manual handling and travel safety. Providing guidance around personal security and workplace safety considerations. Tracking implementation progress and ensuring clear delivery against project milestones. You can also expect occasional international travel, approximately once per quarter, to visit locations and work directly with local teams. What We're Looking For We are keen to speak with Health & Safety professionals who have a strong background in EHS management systems, compliance and implementation projects. You will ideally have: Proven experience implementing or improving Health & Safety management systems. Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and legal compliance requirements. Experience conducting compliance audits, identifying gaps and developing action plans to address them. The ability to develop practical policies, procedures and processes that can be implemented across different business locations. Experience working with contractors, facilities teams and external service providers. The confidence to engage with stakeholders at different levels and work across international teams. A proactive, self-sufficient approach, with the ability to take ownership and deliver projects independently. Experience with EHS compliance software or global management system implementations. Experience within facilities management (offices), building services, construction, engineering or manufacturing would be particularly beneficial, especially where you have been involved in office refurbishments, fit-outs or contractor management. The Ideal Candidate The organisation is looking for someone who can work independently and bring structure to an evolving project. You should be comfortable engaging with different stakeholders, challenging existing arrangements where necessary and driving improvements through to completion. You will need to be organised, commercially aware and confident managing your own workload across multiple locations and time zones. Location & Contract Details Location: Ideally based in Manchester or the North West, with regular attendance at the Manchester office. Working pattern: Ideally 5 days per week. Travel: International travel approximately once per quarter. Duration: Initial 6-month contract, with a strong likelihood of extension. Day rate: £450-£500 per day. Outside IR35 Start date: ASAP. Screening: Standard background screening and DBS check required, arranged by the client. Interested?
