About the Company
Our client is a leading manufacturer within the construction equipment and heavy machinery sector, with a strong reputation for quality, engineering capability and customer support across the UK. They provide premium machinery solutions to customers across construction, civil engineering, plant hire, waste management, agriculture, infrastructure and associated heavy equipment markets. Due to an upcoming retirement within the sales team, they are now looking to appoint an Area Sales Manager to take ownership of an established Scotland territory.
About the Role
This is a field-based sales role covering a defined territory across Scotland, with responsibility for managing existing customer relationships, developing new business opportunities and driving sales growth across a premium earthmoving and construction equipment product range. The role would suit a commercially driven sales professional who understands longer sales cycles, relationship-led selling and high-value capital equipment sales. You will be responsible for building strong customer relationships, identifying new opportunities, managing quotations, negotiating deals and working closely with internal teams to ensure a smooth customer experience from initial enquiry through to delivery and aftersales support.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and develop a defined sales territory across Scotland.
- Build strong relationships with existing customers while actively prospecting for new business.
- Identify, qualify and convert sales opportunities across construction equipment, earthmoving machinery and associated products.
- Sell into customers across sectors such as construction, civils, plant hire, infrastructure, waste management, agriculture and wider heavy equipment markets.
- Prepare and follow up quotations, negotiate within agreed commercial frameworks and close profitable deals.
- Manage a pipeline of opportunities through CRM and maintain accurate customer records.
- Work closely with internal sales, aftersales, parts, service and technical teams to ensure a seamless customer experience.
- Support product demonstrations and customer visits where required.
- Represent the business professionally at customer sites, industry events and exhibitions.
- Take ownership of customer queries or issues and ensure they are resolved effectively.
- Consistently work towards agreed sales, profitability and customer service targets.
Key Requirements
- Proven B2B sales experience, ideally within construction equipment, plant, earthmoving machinery, agricultural machinery, waste management equipment, machinery hire or a similar capital equipment environment.
- Strong understanding of territory sales, account management and new business development.
- Comfortable selling higher-value products with a longer sales cycle.
- Able to build lasting relationships with customers across construction, civils, hire, infrastructure, agriculture or similar sectors.
- Commercially aware, target-driven and confident managing a sales pipeline.
- Strong negotiation, communication and relationship-building skills.
- Comfortable using CRM systems and Microsoft Office.
- Self-motivated and able to manage a field-based territory independently.
- Based within a sensible location for covering the Scotland territory.
- A background in OEM, dealer, plant hire, heavy machinery or technical equipment sales would be highly desirable.
