Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer · Location: Crawley, West Sussex (hybrid, two office days a week)
The Opportunity
A UK solar heat and power manufacturer has just closed government-backed investment to build its own UK factory. Its design team now earns revenue in its own right, and the pipeline holds the largest projects in the company’s history. This hire adds capacity where demand is outrunning the team.
The Impact You Will Have
- Take low‑carbon heat and power systems from concept to construction, pairing solar thermal and PVT with heat pumps, thermal storage and PV
- Own the mechanical design on large commercial, industrial and district heating schemes that drive revenue
- Front up to clients, architects and contractors, turning design into signed projects
- Feed site performance back to the product team, shaping the next generation of the technology
What Success Looks Like
- 2 to 5 years designing mechanical plant on larger‑scale building services, heat network or industrial projects
- Designs taken through RIBA 4 and 5: P&IDs, isometrics, sizing and calculations that hold up on site
- Working knowledge of heat pumps, boilers, chillers or CHP, and of CIBSE, BSRIA and CDM
- Owns a design with a senior engineer close by, not waiting to be told
- Wants the breadth and pace of a 30-plus person scale‑up over one lane in a large firm
What Is on Offer
£50,000 basic salary, share options and a discretionary bonus, private healthcare, 25 days plus your birthday, and EV and bike salary sacrifice. A route to Chartership alongside senior engineers who have delivered at scale and exposure that takes years to reach elsewhere.
