Who are we recruiting for?
We are working on behalf of a pioneering, award-winning technology innovator within the subsea robotics space. This bold and future-focused organisation is reshaping global industries through cutting-edge autonomous and remote-controlled solutions for defence, government, and commercial clients worldwide. As they expand their portfolio of advanced marine robotic platforms, they are seeking an exceptional Vehicle Engineering Lead to drive the design, integration, and delivery of next-generation AUVs and USVs.
What will you be doing?
β’ Leading the full engineering lifecycle for AUV and USV development β from concept through to sea trials
β’ Overseeing the integration of mechanical, electrical, marine systems, propulsion, and naval architecture into reliable marine platforms
β’ Managing and mentoring a multidisciplinary engineering team to deliver technically excellent and robust solutions
β’ Collaborating with internal experts, external suppliers, and design partners to expand technical capabilities
β’ Providing hands-on input during prototyping, system integration, commissioning, and offshore operations
β’ Establishing engineering processes that improve repeatability, quality, and efficiency across programmes
β’ Contributing expert insight to bids, proposals, and client discussions, supporting business development
Are you the ideal candidate?
β’ Experienced in maritime robotics, subsea vehicles, or advanced marine systems
β’ Technically strong in at least one of: mechanical design, marine systems, power/propulsion, or naval architecture β with ability to lead across all areas
β’ Hands-on and practical in approach, with experience in prototyping, integration, and deployment
β’ Proven track record in leading technical teams and managing external partners
β’ Knowledgeable of marine classification, safety standards, and product development lifecycles
β’ Passionate about innovation, autonomy, and building systems that perform in harsh environments
Desirable:
β’ Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards professional registration
β’ Familiarity with autonomy, robotics, or embedded systems
β’ Experience supporting sea trials, production, or operations teams during deployment phases
β’ Previous involvement in proposals or client-facing engineering discussions
