About the Role
Executive Heads has been retained to appoint a Sales Director for an established, privately owned Electrical and Electronics Manufacturing business based in Somerset. Reporting directly to the Managing Director and joining the board of directors alongside the operational directors and finance director, the Sales Director will lead the entire sales and marketing function, managing a team that includes a regional sales manager, area sales managers, and internal sales and marketing staff, with full responsibility for sales targets, strategy, and budget.
The new Sales Director will be a key driver of growth, responsible for setting ambitious yet achievable sales targets aligned with the company’s commitment to product quality and customer service. They will oversee the development and execution of sales plans, coach and mentor the sales team, and act as the company’s eyes and ears in the marketplace to provide regular, insightful feedback to the board. This role requires a strong technical understanding of electrical or electronic products and the ability to navigate a complex, evolving market. The Sales Director will also manage key relationships with specialist wholesalers and industry associations to enhance the company’s market presence and growth opportunities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Own the sales P&L, driving sustainable year‑on‑year revenue growth and profitability while maintaining high product quality and service standards.
- Lead and manage the regional sales team, including area sales managers and internal sales support, setting clear targets and objectives aligned with the annual business plan.
- Develop and implement sales strategies that capitalise on market opportunities, while preserving strong customer relationships.
- Oversee the sales pipeline, budgeting, and forecasting processes, ensuring accurate and timely management information for board‑level decision‑making.
- Coach, mentor, and motivate the sales team to improve performance, foster collaboration, and support professional development.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, wholesalers, and industry associations to enhance market presence and brand reputation.
- Coordinate closely with production and other internal departments to align sales targets with operational capabilities and customer service excellence.
- Manage marketing activities, including trade journals, exhibitions, CPD events, and digital presence to support sales growth.
- Provide regular, insightful market feedback and reports to the board, highlighting trends, challenges, and opportunities.
- Travel regularly to customer sites, exhibitions, and regional offices, maintaining a strong presence both in the field and at the company’s headquarters.
