Head of Buying
Homeware, Kitchenware & Electricals
Location: Trafford Park, Manchester
Department: Buying
Reports To: Managing Director
Are you a commercially driven buying professional with deep experience in the homeware, kitchenware, and electricals sector? This is a unique opportunity to join a fast growing B2B business at a pivotal moment in its expansion.
As Head of Buying, you’ll lead strategic purchasing initiatives, drive product innovation, and shape the future of a diverse and trend-led product portfolio.
About the Business
This well-established UK-based supplier operates across multiple consumer categories, distributing branded and own-label products to major national retailers. With a strong emphasis on global sourcing, particularly from the Far East, the business is known for its agility, innovation, and commitment to quality. Based in Trafford Park, Manchester, the company is entering an exciting phase of growth and transformation.
About the Role
As Head of Buying, you will lead the buying function with full ownership of purchase order budgets, intake, margins, deposits, and stock levels. You will be responsible for driving new product development across all categories, consistently bringing fresh and commercially viable ideas to market. Your strategic vision will shape and execute product strategies and range plans that maximise both sales and profitability.
You will analyse product performance and implement corrective actions where needed, championing data-driven decision-making through the use of market insights and analytics. With a keen eye on market trends, you’ll anticipate shifts and adapt strategies to stay ahead of the curve.
In this leadership role, you will inspire and guide a team of Buyers, ensuring high-quality range planning and execution. You will oversee SKU and supplier optimisation, as well as global sourcing initiatives, particularly from the Far East. Collaboration will be key, as you work cross-functionally with Sales, Quality Assurance, and Merchandising teams to successfully launch new ranges.
You will also mentor and develop your team to achieve key performance indicators and foster a high-performance culture. Through strategic buying decisions, you will enhance the brand image and identify new growth opportunities, supporting promotional strategies that drive commercial success.
About You
We’re looking for someone who has worked within a supplier environment, not retail—ideally in homeware, kitchenware, or electricals. You’ll have experience selling into major retailers and understand the dynamics of national accounts. Strong expertise in Far East sourcing and supplier management is essential, along with commercial acumen, creativity, and a hands on approach.
You should be confident in range-building, SKU validation, market analysis, trend forecasting, and Excel-based reporting. As a natural leader and collaborator, you’ll be able to inspire and develop teams while driving results.
Why This Role?
You’ll be joining the team at an exciting time, helping to accelerate business growth and shape the future of the product portfolio. This is a chance to make a real impact, lead with creativity, and drive commercial success in a business that values innovation and agility.
