To carry out Gas, Heating and Plumbing works on repairs and maintenance, minor works, capital projects, empty properties, schools and public buildings.
- Qualifications:
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent Advanced Craft Certificate in Plumbing
- Gas ACS CCN1 & Appliances / Non Domestic Gas equivalent
- Time served recognised apprenticeship in Plumbing
- Certificate of competence in Manual Handling
- Certificate of competence in Working at Height
- Relevant Health and Safety Training
- Certificate of Asbestos Awareness Training
- Work Experience:
- Experience of a range of Gas, Heating and Plumbing competencies and trade skills
- Undertaking all aspects of the role, using a multi-skilled whole job approach
- The use of portable tools and equipment
- Experience of measuring and marking out for work
- Experience of working on domestic homes when occupied or empty
- Experience of working in Public Buildings and Schools
- Experience of all 1st and 2nd fix Heating Install
- Experience in on site Health and Safety
- Be Competent in working with and dealing with materials classed as Hazardous to Health (COSHH)
- Be able to carry out a Risk Assessment
- Knowledge/ Skills/ Aptitudes:
- Able to work unsupervised and solve a range of complex problems without recall or advice
- Measuring and Marking out on-site; Read drawings and plans
- Operate hand tools and mechanical plant, use of testing equipment (e.g CAT – Cable Detecting Device)
- Driving Vehicles
- Continued concentration on a range of matters simultaneously (i.e. operating machines to correct tolerances; safety of employees, public etc.)
- Mental forward planning (for materials and plant)
- Planning the order of tasks that need to be completed in a day
Key Tasks of the Post:
- Undertaking all aspects of the role, using a multi-skilled whole job approach

- Experience of all 1st and 2nd fix Heating and Gas work including Planned, Replacement and Maintenance works
- Experienced in on site Health and Safety
- Be competent in working with and dealing with materials classed as Hazardous to Health (COSHH)
- Be able to carry out a Risk Assessment
- Regularly working at height, working both indoors and outdoors
- To ensure site is safe for public and employees
- To change and use tools associated with the work including Portable Power Tools associated to a multi-skilled whole job approach
- To Supervise Apprentices, work experience and other young people in a construction environment and in our customers' homes
- Demonstrating the correct completion of gas, heating and plumbing tasks, and excellent level of customer care
- Responsible for the progress of your own work on site, ensuring that all tasks are carried out to high standard and conforming to current regulations
- Be a team player and therefore able to work in a group
- Be accustomed to building and construction sites
- Understand the basics of computers and other hand-held devices
- To ensure site is safe for public and employees
- You will be responsible for contributing to a great team
- Responsible for the progress of your own work on site, ensuring that the job is marked out correctly and at the right levels
- Evaluating drawings and ordering the amount of material and plant required for the day
- To ensure that the job is completed in the time frame and to customers' satisfaction
- Responsible for the safety of yourself and others around you in the work you carry out
- To work to plans and drawings but the application and approach is determined by the post holder
- Able to determine order of tasks to be undertaken during the day
- The post holder will not in day-to-day activities be supervised and will be responsible for ensuring the work is completed on time and safely
- While major unforeseen circumstances may be discussed with your Team Leader or manager, the majority of problems are expected to be solved by the Tradesman without seeking assistance
