Are you an experienced finance professional who thrives on partnership working, strategic influence, and making a real difference to public services? We are looking for a highly motivated Finance Business Partner to join our Financial Planning and Business Partnering team. This is a pivotal role, providing high-quality financial advice, insight and support to Directors and Senior Leadership Teams as we deliver the Mayor’s vision and achieve the strategic priorities.
As a trusted Finance Business Partner, you will help shape how resources are planned, managed and understood across the organisation. Whether you are supporting services with clear financial insight or contributing to the development of future financial plans, your work will play a key part in ensuring we remain resilient, well-informed and ambitious.
As a Finance Business Partner, you will:
- Lead on revenue and capital budget preparation, monitoring, and forecasting.
- Support the production of the Statement of Accounts and statutory financial returns.
- Work closely with service managers to understand operational needs and influence strategic decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and the financial procedures.
- Lead, develop and support finance staff to deliver a high-quality service.
- Drive improvements in financial systems, processes and organisation-wide training.
You’ll play a key role in forward-looking financial modelling, guiding services to understand their financial position, and contributing to key financial reports. Your work will strengthen financial governance, enhance processes, and support the overall financial framework.
We would welcome a strong level of knowledge and experience in:
- Local Authority finance experience with a strong understanding of local government accounting policy and service delivery.
- Supporting demand-led services, such as Children’s or Adult’s Social Care, and an understanding of the financial pressures and challenges these high-cost statutory services face.
- Medium-term financial planning and supporting the development of longer-term budgets and forecasts.
- Communicating clearly and confidently with senior leaders and service managers.
- Interpreting financial information, identifying risks and presenting clear analysis.
- Working proactively, collaboratively and with a customer-focused approach.
