Work hard, they said. Be keen, they said. Start your exams. And then you'll get the progression you want. You've done your part. But have they? You won't face that problem here. At this IFA business they'll help develop you into the paraplanner you want, and know, you can be. And they won't just leave you to figure things out for yourself. There are weekly training sessions, monthly appraisals and genuine support from experienced financial planners to help you develop. This is a company that believes in nurturing its employees.
You'll work closely with an adviser, gradually taking on more paraplanning responsibilities as your skills and confidence grow. In the not too distant future, you'll be researching financial planning strategies, using cashflow modelling and getting involved in the thinking behind the advice. That will ultimately mean becoming a paraplanner in a "proper", independent, modern financial planning practice. And as you progress, so will your pay. You'll start on a salary of up to £37,000, depending on your experience and qualifications. Plus, you'll get a share of the profits through a team bonus scheme, which typically adds around 10% to your salary.
Alongside that there's:
- Pension
- Life assurance
- Private medical insurance
- Income protection
- Electric vehicle scheme
- 25 days holiday plus extra days off over Christmas (they close between Xmas and the New Year)
What we really like about this business is that they're committed to developing their people. Weekly training and monthly appraisals mean you'll know how you're progressing, where you need to improve and what you're working towards. How refreshing is that?
WHAT YOU'LL DO
You'll provide support to one of the firm's advisers and become an important part of their advice team. You'll help prepare for client meetings, review clients' circumstances and financial plans and gradually become more involved in researching and evaluating potential recommendations. You'll learn to use Voyant for cashflow modelling, prepare suitability reports and develop an understanding of how different financial planning strategies can help clients achieve their goals. And this isn't a business that sees paraplanning as simply writing reports. They're embracing AI and new technology, freeing up more time for the analysis, problem-solving and human side of financial planning. You'll have the opportunity to get involved in that too. The pace of progress will depend on how you develop. There's no one-size-fits-all approach, but you'll have plenty of support along the way.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
Experience working in administration within a financial planning business. Ideally 3-4 R0 exams already passed, with a commitment to completing your Diploma. A genuine desire to develop into a paraplanning role. Evidence that you've already taken steps towards that goal, whether through exams, additional responsibilities or seeking exposure to the advice process. Strong organisational skills, the ability to use your initiative and a willingness to take ownership of your work will also set you apart.
ABOUT THE COMPANY
This IFA firm is fiercely independent and fiercely proud to be small. What's more, they aren't set up to sell. You don't have to worry about being bought out by a firm that you wouldn't have chosen to join. They're a friendly, growing business providing ongoing financial planning advice to around 200 households. They're passionate about proper financial planning, helping real people achieve their goals rather than simply selling financial products. They're also a business that punches above its weight, not least through its investment proposition in association with Albion Strategic. They believe in doing things properly, looking after their clients and employees, and constantly finding ways to improve. That includes embracing technology and AI. They believe it will reshape financial planning for the better and want people who are excited about the possibilities rather than worried about change. Most importantly, they're looking for someone who wants to build a career with them. Someone keen to learn, happy to ask questions and willing to make a real contribution to a small team.
