Opportunity in Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer's Insurance and Professional Risks team in the Disputes division in London is looking for an experienced lawyer to support high-profile, complex work for policyholders, insurers and brokers.
Primary objectives
- Deliver excellent client service

Key responsibilities
- Handle coverage disputes across all business classes, including property damage, business interruption, professional indemnity, D&O, Cyber, Warranty & Indemnity, Credit & Political Risk, Contractors All Risk, and public/product liability.
- Manage contentious regulatory matters and professional negligence claims (mainly involving solicitors and insurance brokers).
- Assist clients with advisory work on policy reviews.
- Lead and delegate work to junior colleagues; provide feedback and progress updates to supervisor and team.
- Oversee billing process and manage utilisation.
- Develop and maintain client relationships, anticipate needs and deliver prompt responses.
- Collaborate with global network, uphold firm values, mentor juniors, and engage in marketing and industry events.
- Ensure compliance with risk, firm policies, professional responsibilities, billing, engagement and client acceptance processes.
Qualifications, skills and experience
- Qualified/admitted legal practitioner in relevant jurisdiction.
- 2‐4 PQE (open to other experience levels).
- Solid knowledge of chosen area of law and industry sectors.
- Strong drafting, negotiation, project management, and foundational people‐management skills.
- Understanding of law‐firm profitability, cost and budget management.
- Personal leadership, initiative, teamwork, project management, client‐experience enhancement, and business development skills.
Working pattern
- Full‐time, permanent contract, London office.
