Opportunity
Primary Objectives: To have a committed interest in Legal Project Management with a view to developing and building your knowledge, skills and experience.
- Primary Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of structured legal project management on large, complex, or multi‑jurisdictional matters efficiently and effectively, including day‑to‑day project management tasks with the Senior LPM team.
- Assist with the scoping, planning, and reporting for identified projects, including developing the project plan, project timeline, fee monitoring, providing regular status updates, and tracking progress against scope, timeline and cost parameters.
- Assist the senior team in working with clients to develop solutions to specific challenges.
- Communicate with trainees, associates, senior associates and partners within the Disputes and Transactions Practice Groups and with clients on a regular basis; excellent drafting skills are essential.
- Support the design, development and implementation of matter budgets.
- Proactively monitor matter budgets against actual performance and present findings to key stakeholders.
- Where appropriate and required by specific practice areas, clients or projects, support the billing process and WIP management.
- Assist in maintaining and populating volume data and documentation on supported transactions and projects.
- Help develop metrics and reporting tools to illustrate trends and analysis of matter performance.
- Proactively identify areas of concern, success, and opportunity.
- Undertake analysis to support write‑offs and post/ongoing matter negotiations.
- Escalate project‑specific issues appropriately to Senior members of the LPM team.
- Draft pitch content for the Senior LPM Team for client and panel pitches covering frameworks, principles, technology and process improvement.
- Support the manager in managing external service providers and local counsel teams; manage conflict clearances, prepare draft instructions, support matter kick‑off, process design and other administrative activities.
- Capture relevant legal project management case studies for best practice, and prepare slide decks and tombstone data for pitches, debriefs and training activities.
- Coordinate regular legal project management calls and meetings; distribute instructions to local counsel; and respond to legal team queries on transaction/project processes.
- Support legal process design opportunities by creating process maps, administering managed service pilots, and creating quick guides for clients and lawyers.
- Support the collation and development of LPM collateral, tools and templates, and manage the resource repositories for knowledge sharing.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Degree qualified in Law, Management, Finance or a business‑related subject.
- Over 1–2 years post‑degree experience in a law firm or other professional services firm.
- Qualified lawyers with a proven track record of managing legal work end to end.
- Comprehensive understanding of the legal process and typical work product in a law firm environment.
- Ability to build relationships and influence all levels of seniority.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to summarise complex issues succinctly verbally and in writing and to liaise directly with clients and members of the Disputes Practice Group.
- Strong analytical ability and sound judgement to balance multiple factors and solve complex problems.
- Demonstrated financial acumen and understanding of key financial performance indicators.
- Demonstrated ability to simplify complex concepts and communicate information effectively.
- Strong foundational skills with Microsoft 365 Suite: essential experience with Excel, Power Point and Word.
- Experience with Power BI and Share Point is an advantage.
- Strong IT literacy and aptitude for learning new and innovative software and IT applications.
- Strong systems skill set and ability to rapidly pick up new systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
