Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer’s Insurance and Professional Risks team in the Disputes division in London is looking for an experienced lawyer to support high-profile, complex work for policyholders, insurers and brokers.
Primary objectives
- Deliver excellent client service, manage discrete legal work, meet target hours, build commercial and legal expertise, strengthen client relationships, provide leadership in project and client management, and support firm initiatives.
Key responsibilities
- Handle coverage disputes across all business classes, including property damage, business interruption, professional indemnity, D&O, Cyber, Warranty & Indemnity, Credit & Political Risk, Contractors All Risk, and public/product liability.
- Manage contentious regulatory matters and professional negligence claims (mainly involving solicitors and insurance brokers).
- Assist clients with advisory work on policy reviews.
- Lead and delegate work to junior colleagues; provide feedback and progress updates to supervisor and team.
- Oversee billing process and manage utilisation.
- Develop and maintain client relationships, anticipate needs and deliver prompt responses.
- Collaborate with global network, uphold firm values, mentor juniors, and engage in marketing and industry events.
- Ensure compliance with risk, firm policies, professional responsibilities, billing, engagement and client acceptance processes.
Qualifications, skills and experience
- Qualified/admitted legal practitioner in relevant jurisdiction.
- 2‑4 PQE (open to other experience levels).
- Solid knowledge of chosen area of law and industry sectors.
- Strong drafting, negotiation, project management, and foundational people‑management skills.
- Understanding of law‑firm profitability, cost and budget management.
- Personal leadership, initiative, teamwork, project management, client‑experience enhancement, and business development skills.
Working pattern
- Full‑time, permanent contract, London office.
