Role Overview
The role is to work as one of the In‑House Counsel lawyers in the General Counsel & Risk team based in London and Australia, covering all HSF Kramer offices. The team ensures the firm maintains the highest standards in conduct, quality, integrity, risk management, and regulatory compliance, and manages legal risks of operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and practice compliance issues for the firm and advise in response to particular circumstances.
- Advise internally on compliance policies and procedures.
- Assist lawyers and management in making risk‑based decisions on practice‑related points.
- Prepare and deliver compliance and risk training, awareness programmes and inductions.
- Provide regulatory advice on the professional requirements for lawyers in the jurisdictions in which the firm operates.
- Deliver risk and compliance training (knowledge and learning).
- Act for general risk and compliance across the Practice Groups.
- Advise lawyers on practice‑specific issues arising in client work (opinions, escrows, conduct, billing).
- Advise on client engagement terms, review key client terms or requests for bespoke terms, and draft as required.
- Answer client enquiries regarding the firm’s risk profile and regulatory position.
- Support the Business Services teams by advising on contracts with third‑party partners.

- Qualified lawyer with City practice experience.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment on legal and commercial matters.
- Strong problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Strong understanding of a law firm’s commercial imperatives.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, liaising with lawyers and business services at all levels.
- Good presentation skills, delivering training at all levels.
