The Opportunity

Primary Objectives To have a committed interest in LPM with a view to developing and building their knowledge, skills and experience. The individual will be required to deliver excellent legal service to our clients and internal stakeholders. Additionally, assisting with project management tasks on matters whilst also supporting the senior members of the LPM team.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support in the delivery of structured legal project management on large, complex, or multi‑jurisdictional matters efficiently and effectively.
  • Assist the Senior LPM team with day-to-day project management tasks.
  • Assist with the scoping, planning and reporting for identified projects, including developing the project plan, timeline, fee monitoring, providing regular status updates, and tracking progress against scope, timeline and cost parameters.
  • Assist the senior team in working with clients to develop solutions to specific client challenges.
  • Communicate with Trainees, Associates, Senior Associates and Partners within the Disputes and Transactions Practice Groups and with clients regularly; excellent drafting skills are essential.
  • Support the design, development and implementation of matter budgets and proactively monitor budgets against actual performance, presenting findings to key stakeholders.
  • Where appropriate, support the billing process and WIP management.
  • Assist the maintenance and population of volume data and documentation on supported transactions and projects.
  • Assist the team in developing metrics and reporting tools to illustrate trends and matter performance analysis.
  • Proactively identify areas of concern, success and opportunity; undertake analysis to support write‑offs and post/ongoing matter negotiations.
  • Escalate project‑specific issues appropriately to Senior LPM team members.
  • Draft pitch content for the Senior LPM Team for submission on client and panel pitches covering legal project management frameworks and principles, technology and process improvement.
  • Support the Manager in managing external service providers and local counsel teams; manage conflicts clearances; prepare draft instructions; support matter kick‑off; process design and other administrative activities.
  • Capture relevant legal project management case studies as examples of best practice and prepare slide decks and tombstone data for inclusion in pitches, debriefs and training activities.
  • Coordinate regular legal project management calls and meetings; distribute instructions to local counsel; and respond to legal team queries on transaction/process matters.
  • Support process design opportunities by creating process maps, supporting managed service pilots and creating quick guides for clients and lawyers.
  • Support the collation and development of LPM collateral, tools and templates and manage the resource repositories for knowledge sharing.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Degree qualified in Law, Management, Finance or Business‑related subject.
  • 1–2 years post‑degree experience in a law firm or other professional services firm.
  • Proven track record of managing legal work end‑to‑end.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the legal process and typical work product in a law firm environment.
  • Ability to build relationships and influence all levels of seniority.
  • Excellent communication skills, including summarising complex issues succinctly in writing and verbally, and liaising directly with clients and members of the Disputes Practice Group.
  • Strong analytical ability and sound judgment to solve complex problems while balancing multiple factors.
  • Demonstrated financial acumen and understanding of key financial performance indicators.
  • Ability to simplify complex concepts and communicate information effectively.
  • Strong foundational skills with Microsoft365 Suite; experience with Excel, PowerPoint and Word essential.
  • Experience with PowerBI and SharePoint is an advantage.
  • Strong IT literacy and aptitude for learning new and innovative software and applications.
  • Strong systems skill set and ability to rapidly pick up new systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Empathy and situational awareness.
  • High level of attention to detail and effective communication.
  • Organised and practical mindset with ability to see the big picture.
  • Excellent personal time management principles.
  • Determination, resilience and persistence.
  • Skilled at prioritising demanding workloads and working on projects within an international team.
  • Desirable: Experience of using a Financial Practice Management System (e.g. Elite or Aderant Expert).
  • Desirable: Experience using PowerBI (or Power Automate tools) for analysis and reporting.
  • Desirable: Understanding of law firm economics.
  • Desirable: Experience working with a combination of legal technologies, such as collaboration software, automation and AI.
