We are currently providing an opportunity to those who have structured cabling experience that are wishing to transition or build a career as a Cabling Design Consultant. This role is ideal for someone who already holds experience in structured cabling or ICT delivery — perhaps from a project management, site management, or operational background — who is ready to take the next step into design, estimation, and consultancy.
This is a developmental role, offering a structured 6–12 month training programme designed to transition you from delivery-focused work into a technically and commercially capable Design Consultant. You will gain exposure to both pre-sales (tendering and estimation) and post-sales (on-site design and validation) activities, supported by formal training, mentoring, and hands-on project experience. By the end of the programme, you’ll be equipped to independently deliver small works and variations, with a clear pathway toward a full Design Consultant position.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Learning & Development (Core Focus)
- Participate fully in the Trainee Design Consultant Training Programme
- Complete internal, external, manufacturer, and industry-recognised training (including CNET where applicable)
- Build and maintain training records, portfolio evidence, and assessment documentation
- Undertake self-study and off-the-job learning in line with programme requirements
- Attend regular progress reviews, assessments, and performance evaluations
- Continuously develop your technical, design, and commercial knowledge
- Pre-Sales Design Support (Supervised)
- Support Senior Designers with surveys, design development, and cost build-ups
- Assist with producing: Bills of Materials (BOMs), Labour schedules, Technical responses, assumptions, and exclusions
- Learn and use industry tools such as INTACT, Excel, CAD, and Bluebeam
- Help prepare pre-contract documentation and design handover information
- Ensure all work aligns with internal processes and quality standards
- Post-Sales / On-Site Design Support (Supervised)
- Support on-site design activities within live construction environments
- Assist with producing and updating: General arrangement drawings, Cabinet and frame layouts, Cable routing and containment drawings, As-built and progress mark-ups
- Work alongside Project Managers, site teams, and other trades
- Support testing, witnessing, and documentation activities
- Learn design risk assessment and site-based health & safety requirements
