Excel Resourcing is currently supporting a long-term opportunity for a Semi-Skilled HGV Technician to join a busy commercial vehicle workshop operating on a night shift pattern. This is a great opportunity for someone with hands-on mechanical experience who is looking to develop their skillset further within a fast-paced, team-driven environment working on large commercial vehicles. You will be working alongside experienced technicians, assisting with inspections, servicing, and repair work to ensure vehicles remain safe, compliant, and operational.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with servicing, maintenance, and repair of heavy commercial vehicles
- Support workshop technicians with fault finding and repair activities
- Use hand tools and workshop equipment in a safe and efficient manner
- Complete relevant documentation accurately where required
- Follow parts and component replacement processes correctly
- Ensure all work is completed to a high standard of quality and safety
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment
- Comply with all health & safety procedures and report any issues or hazards
- Work collaboratively within a night shift workshop team
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
- Previous experience in a mechanical or vehicle workshop environment
- Basic understanding of HGV or commercial vehicle systems
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn and develop skills
- Ability to work independently when required
- Own tools
Desirable:
- Relevant qualification (NVQ / City & Guilds or equivalent)
- Experience working on heavy vehicles or commercial fleets
- Ability to manage workload and work to deadlines
- Strong problem-solving ability
- Good communication skills
- LGV C+E licence advantageous but not essential
- Own transport for commuting to shift
