The Role
As a Senior Placing Broker, you will take a lead role in structuring and executing placement strategies across Exance’s insurance portfolio. You will be responsible for building and managing relationships with capacity providers, supporting delegated authority arrangements, and ensuring optimal placement of risk in line with underwriting strategy. This is a highly commercial, relationship-driven role requiring deep market knowledge and the ability to operate across underwriting, broking, and capacity providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the placement of construction and property risks with insurers and capacity providers
- Structure and negotiate binding authority and delegated authority agreements insuring success
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with Insurers, Reinsurers, Lloyd’s syndicates and alternative capacity providers
- Act as a key interface between underwriting, brokers, and capacity partners
- Optimise panel selection and capacity deployment to support profitable growth
- Negotiate terms, pricing, and coverage to align with underwriting appetite
- Support the development of new products and schemes alongside underwriting teams
- Monitor market conditions and provide strategic insight on capacity trends and pricing
- Ensure all placements comply with Financial Conduct Authority requirements and internal governance standards
Skills & Experience
- 5–10 years’ experience in:
- Insurance broking (wholesale or retail)
- MGA / delegated authority environments
- Specialty lines (construction / property preferred)
- Strong relationships with UK and/or Lloyd’s market participants
- Proven track record of placing complex or large risks
- Deep understanding of:
- Delegated authorities
- Binding authorities
- Capacity structures
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills
- Commercially driven with a strategic mindset
Qualifications
- Relevant industry qualifications (e.g. ACII or progress toward) preferred
- Strong understanding of UK regulatory framework under the Financial Conduct Authority
