Are you an experienced Occupational Health Physician looking for a strategic leadership opportunity with flexibility, influence, and the ability to shape clinical excellence?
We are seeking a highly credible and experienced
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to provide clinical leadership across a well-established Occupational Health service. This is a predominantly remote position, requiring attendance in
Houghton-le-Spring once per month , offering an excellent opportunity to make a significant impact while maintaining flexibility.
The Opportunity
As Chief Medical Officer, you will play a pivotal role in providing clinical direction, governance, and expert guidance across our Occupational Health operations.
Working closely with the Head of Occupational Health Operations, you will ensure services are delivered to the highest clinical standards and in line with industry best practice.
This is an influential appointment for a senior Occupational Health professional who enjoys supporting clinicians, driving quality, and contributing to service development.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert clinical leadership and advice across the Occupational Health function.
- Undertake clinical work to the highest professional standards when required.
- Support quality assurance through clinical audits, peer reviews, and report assessments.
- Provide guidance on clinical queries, complaints, and complex case management.
- Contribute clinical expertise during tender processes and service design discussions.
- Support and actively participate in clinical governance activities.
- Review clinical trends and audit findings to improve service quality and consistency.
- Help develop policies, procedures, and best-practice frameworks.
- Provide education, mentoring, and professional support to Occupational Health colleagues.
- Remain up to date with legislative, regulatory, and professional changes affecting Occupational Health practice.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will possess
Essential Qualifications
- Full GMC registration.
- MFOM, AFOM, or equivalent Occupational Health qualification.
- Strong understanding of clinical governance and quality assurance frameworks.
- Sound knowledge of GDPR, Data Protection, and Information Governance requirements.
Experience
- Significant experience across a broad range of Occupational Health settings.
- Strong report-writing and clinical assessment skills.
- Experience conducting clinical audits and quality reviews.
- Excellent knowledge of Occupational Health legislation, HSE guidance, and associated regulations.
- Experience providing senior clinical advice and guidance to multidisciplinary teams.
