Are you a Registered Nurse with a keen eye for detail and a passion for clinical standards? UKIM is seeking a dedicated Medical Records Nurse Assessor (MRNA) to join our dynamic team, supporting the delivery of high‑quality services across our medico‑legal and occupational health departments.
About the Role
As a Medical Records Nurse Assessor, you will play a pivotal role in reviewing medical records and providing clinical assessments in relation to potential clinical negligence claims. Working closely with Case Handlers, you will use your clinical expertise to evaluate the strength of claims, summarise key events, and identify any missing or inconsistent information. You will also support the preparation of medical records for chronology and pagination, ensuring accuracy and relevance in line with client instructions and witness statements. This role involves regular communication with both internal colleagues and external clients, primarily via telephone, and requires a proactive, professional approach to ensure our service exceeds expectations.
Main Responsibilities
- Review medical records and provide an assessment and summary in relation to potential clinical negligence claims.
- Provide a clinical opinion on the strength of a possible clinical negligence claim, helping to identify any possible breach of care, gathering all evidence in support of such an opinion and providing a summary with recommendations for a medical expert to review.
- Identify missing medical records and highlight and discuss inconsistencies in the information and instructions provided with the client.
- Prepare medical records for chronology and pagination, by identifying and summarising relevant information.
- Manage patient cases in line with Pagin8 service standards, ensuring cases are dealt with within the agreed timeframe, being proactive with regards to seeking clarification from the client where required.
- Provide clinical support and assistance to the team.
- Answer internal and external queries relating to pagination services accurately and in a professional, polite and friendly manner.
- Take personal responsibility for the quality of your own work to ensure the Pagin8 service exceeds client expectations, highlighting any personal training requirements directly to your Line Manager.
- Undertake clinical checks for quality purposes on reports received from medical experts within our Medico Legal department and provide feedback where relevant.
What We’re Looking For
Qualifications & Experience:
- NMC registration as an RGN (or equivalent) with a minimum of 3 years post‑registration experience.
- GCSE English (or equivalent) at grade C or above.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
- Familiarity with Occupational Health practices (desirable but not essential).
- Desirable: Experience in report writing.
