This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional who enjoys combining technical Legionella risk assessments with client-facing consultancy.
The role is site-based across Berkshire, Greater West London and the surrounding areas, supporting a varied portfolio of commercial, healthcare and public sector clients.
Please note: this is not a laboratory microbiology position or a junior Water Hygiene Technician role.
We are specifically looking for candidates with proven experience personally carrying out Legionella Risk Assessments and producing detailed technical reports.
The Role
As a Legionella Risk Assessor / Water Hygiene Consultant, you will be responsible for undertaking comprehensive Legionella Risk Assessments, providing practical compliance advice and supporting clients with both proactive and reactive water hygiene consultancy.
You'll work closely with clients to identify risks, produce clear technical reports and recommend practical remedial actions that ensure compliance with current legislation and best practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out Legionella Risk Assessments across a variety of commercial, industrial and public sector sites.
- Produce high-quality technical reports with practical recommendations in accordance with ACOP L8 and HSG274 guidance.
- Survey domestic hot and cold water systems, identifying risks and recommending remedial actions.
- Provide technical advice and consultancy to clients on Legionella compliance and water hygiene best practice.
- Conduct site inspections and review existing water management procedures.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, acting as a trusted technical advisor.
- Respond to client queries and provide practical solutions to compliance issues.
- Work closely with internal teams to ensure remedial recommendations are delivered effectively.
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure work is completed in line with company and industry standards.
- Keep up to date with changes to legislation, guidance and best practice within the water hygiene industry.
About You
We're looking for an experienced Legionella professional who is technically competent, commercially aware and confident communicating with clients.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience personally carrying out Legionella Risk Assessments.
- Experience producing detailed technical Legionella Risk Assessment reports.
- Strong knowledge of domestic hot and cold water systems.
- Excellent understanding of ACOP L8, HSG274 and current Legionella legislation.
- Previous experience providing technical consultancy and compliance advice to clients.
- Ability to identify practical remedial actions and explain technical information clearly.
- Excellent communication and client relationship management skills.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Willingness to travel throughout Berkshire, Greater West London and surrounding areas.
- Highly Desirable
- Previous experience working within healthcare, NHS or care environments.
- Background in plumbing, mechanical engineering or building services.
- LCA-accredited Risk Assessor (or working towards accreditation).
- Experience surveying complex water systems across multiple sectors.

This role is suited to experienced Legionella Risk Assessors or Water Hygiene Consultants with genuine site-based assessment experience.
Unfortunately, candidates from laboratory microbiology backgrounds or those with only Water Hygiene Technician experience, without carrying out Legionella Risk Assessments, are unlikely to be suitable.
