Water Treatment Engineer

The Role
As a Water Treatment Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering a wide range of water treatment services across heating, chilled, hot and cold water systems.
The role will focus heavily on pre-commission cleaning, closed system water treatment, chemical dosing, monitoring and ongoing maintenance, ensuring systems operate safely, efficiently and remain fully compliant with current industry standards.
You will also support Legionella control programmes, carrying out monitoring, remedial works and advising clients on maintaining safe water systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Closed System Water Treatment
- Carry out water sampling and analysis on closed-loop systems, including p H, conductivity, inhibitor levels and microbiological testing.
- Monitor corrosion, glycol levels, TDS and oxygen levels to maintain system performance.
- Apply and maintain appropriate chemical treatment programmes, including inhibitors, biocides and dispersants.
- Service and maintain chemical dosing equipment and automated dosing systems.
- Carry out pre-commission cleaning, remedial flushing and chemical cleaning of heating and chilled water systems.
- Diagnose and resolve issues including corrosion, low inhibitor levels, sludge build-up and microbiological contamination.
- Inspect and maintain filters, strainers, expansion vessels and associated plant.
- Produce accurate service reports and provide recommendations for system improvements.
- Ensure all work complies with BSRIA, BSI and HSE guidance.
- Legionella Control
- Collect water samples for laboratory analysis.
- Inspect water tanks, calorifiers and associated systems.
- Carry out cleaning, disinfection, descaling and flushing of water systems.
- Maintain water softeners, filtration equipment and dosing systems.
- Ensure compliance with ACo P L8 and HSG274 guidance.
- Advise clients on corrective actions and ongoing compliance.
- Respond to non-compliant sampling results and undertake remedial disinfection where required.
- Maintain testing equipment and ensure safe handling of chemicals in accordance with COSHH regulations.
Requirements
Minimum of 2 years' experience within water treatment and Legionella control.
Proven experience in pre-commission cleaning, chemical dosing and closed system water treatment.
Experience carrying out hot and cold-water system disinfection.
Good understanding of dosing equipment, water softeners and filtration systems.
Legionella Awareness (ACo P L8 & HSG274).
BSRIA BG29 & BG50 knowledge or certification.
COSHH awareness.
Confined Space and Working at Height certification (desirable).
First Aid, IOSH or NEBOSH qualifications (desirable).
Full UK Driving Licence.
