Overview

Exalto Consulting is supporting a major secure technology programme responsible for delivering and maintaining highly available, mission‑critical digital platforms. We are seeking experienced DevOps Software Engineers / Site Reliability Engineers to join a specialist engineering team focused on the reliability, scalability and continuous improvement of secure infrastructure and application platforms. This is a hands‑on engineering role working within a highly regulated environment where operational resilience, automation and engineering excellence are key priorities. You will work closely with infrastructure, platform and software engineering teams to design, build, automate and support modern containerised environments while helping to improve platform capabilities, observability and service reliability.

The Role

As a DevOps Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing and supporting secure infrastructure platforms and deployment pipelines. You will help maintain resilient, scalable and secure services while driving automation, monitoring and continuous improvement initiatives across the wider platform estate.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing, building and supporting containerised infrastructure platforms
  • Managing Kubernetes and OpenShift environments
  • Developing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code solutions
  • Supporting CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
  • Implementing monitoring, alerting and observability solutions
  • Troubleshooting complex platform and infrastructure issues
  • Supporting operational readiness, resilience and service reliability
  • Collaborating with engineering teams to improve platform capabilities and developer experience
  • Contributing to DevSecOps and security assurance activities
  • Supporting incident management and operational improvement initiatives

Required Skills & Experience

  • Active UK security clearance at the required level
  • Strong Linux administration and command‑line expertise (Bash/Zsh)
  • Kubernetes administration and support
  • OpenShift, VMware or similar virtualisation platforms
  • Infrastructure as Code experience
  • Version control using Git
  • Monitoring, observability and operational support experience
  • Prometheus and Grafana dashboarding
  • Experience supporting secure or highly regulated environments
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
  • Experience working within Agile delivery teams
  • GitLab administration and CI/CD pipeline management
  • Cloud infrastructure experience
  • Service management and ticketing systems experience
  • Experience working within large‑scale operational environments

You will be a proactive engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and improving the reliability and performance of critical systems. This role would suit someone with experience in Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering or DevOps who enjoys working in secure, technically challenging environments.

Important Eligibility Requirements

Due to the nature of this programme, applicants must:

  • Hold active and transferable UK security clearance at the required level
  • Meet all clearance eligibility requirements
  • Be able to work onsite five days per week
  • Have recent experience working within secure or regulated environments
