About the Role
Exalto Consulting is supporting a client undertaking a complex application migration programme. We are looking for a hands-on Test Analyst to help ensure systems are tested effectively as they move across a varied technology landscape. This role is focused on practical delivery. You will often be working from technical design documentation rather than detailed requirements and in some cases, information may be incomplete or not directly relevant. Your role will be to assess what can be tested, define appropriate scenarios, and carry out structured manual testing. You will work across a mix of applications, including endpoint-delivered tools, cloud-hosted systems, re-platformed legacy applications and SaaS platforms. This position would suit someone who is comfortable working with ambiguity, can make informed decisions about test coverage, and remains focused on delivering outcomes within agreed timelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Review design documentation and identify testable conditions, scenarios and expected outcomes
- Create clear, structured manual test scripts using tools such as Excel or test management platforms
- Identify gaps, inconsistencies, or areas that cannot be tested based on available information
- Carry out System Integration Testing (SIT) across multiple applications and environments
- Support end-to-end testing where required
- Apply risk-based testing, balancing coverage with delivery timelines
- Execute targeted regression testing based on impact and change
- Record test results and defects clearly, including reproducible steps and supporting evidence
- Maintain test artefacts within agreed tools and standards
- Work closely with technical teams and subject matter experts to clarify design intent and resolve queries
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in manual test analysis and test design
- Experience working from technical design documentation, rather than fully defined requirements
- Ability to create effective test scenarios in uncertain or evolving environments
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel for test case creation, tracking and analysis
- Experience with test management and defect tracking tools (e.g. Azure DevOps, JIRA or similar)
You should also be able to:
- Identify what is and isn’t testable
- Filter out unnecessary detail and focus on what matters
- Build clear, efficient and practical test coverage
A solid understanding of the following is important:
- System Integration Testing (SIT)
- End-to-end testing
- Risk-based testing approaches
Desirable Experience
- Experience supporting application migration or transformation programmes
- Exposure to cloud or hybrid environments
- Experience supporting User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
- Experience working with legacy systems or limited documentation
