Working with a leading organisation, we're looking for an experienced Application Development Manager. This is an exciting time to join the team as they roll out a major transformation programme aimed at enhancing digital capabilities and improving the customer experience.
Responsibilities of the role:
- Leading the development and support of key business applications, from legacy mainframe to modern cloud-based systems.
- Managing the full application lifecycle and ensuring reliable service delivery across multiple business areas (e.g. finance, HR, logistics, marketing).
- Overseeing a team of developers, providing coaching, guidance, and direction.
- Coordinating multiple projects while keeping systems stable and secure.
- Ensuring all development follows best practices in quality, security, and maintainability.
- Working closely with stakeholders across the business, as well as external tech partners and service providers.
- Supporting planning, resource management, and delivery of both BAU and project work.
About you:
- Extensive experience in enterprise application delivery and support.
- Strong background managing teams working on mainframe and distributed systems.
- Comfortable with Agile and traditional project delivery methods.
- Solid technical understanding, especially around legacy (ideally COBOL-based systems).
- Great communicator, with the ability to influence and collaborate at all levels.
- Commercially aware and able to balance business priorities with tech delivery.
- Self-driven, adaptable, and solutions-focused.
Nice to have:
- Background in retail, logistics, or financial services.
- Experience modernising legacy applications.
- Exposure to IT service management (e.g., ITIL) and managed service environments.
