Location: Central London (hybrid - typically 4 days/week in office)

Compensation: £70k+p.a. base salary, plus share options (percentage negotiated based on what you contribute)

Working hours: On average 40-42 hours per week, core team hours 10am - 3pm.

The Opportunity

Working directly with the technical co-founders, you'll drive architectural decisions and own critical systems. This role balances senior Individual Contributor work (80%) with strategic planning and team building (20%), with a path toward Head of Engineering as the team scales.

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve our high-volume data pipelines processing customs declarations, ML models for risk detection, and generative AI features.
  • Make technical strategy decisions alongside founders on scaling, tooling, and stack evolution.
  • Design and implement customer integrations and enterprise API solutions.
  • Lead technical aspects of enterprise sales cycles and customer onboarding.
  • Conduct deep data analysis and engineering to support compliance algorithms.
  • Manage AWS and Azure infrastructure and establish engineering best practices.
  • Contribute to information security and certifications.
  • Mentor junior engineers and establish culture, set standards for documentation and code quality.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in enterprise web application development, with a track record of owning complex systems end to end.
  • Deep expertise in production data engineering, including designing and scaling real-time data analytics pipelines.
  • Security-conscious approach to enterprise data handling and infrastructure.
  • Experience managing or leading engineers formally or informally.
  • Strong communication skills - you'll help us translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Pragmatic problem-solving approach with good judgment on tradeoffs in ambiguity.

Valuable but not required

  • Frontend and user experience design skills.
  • Strong database skills across OLTP & OLAP, using MySQL, PostgreSQL, and document stores.
  • Familiarity with major enterprise ERPs or transportation management solutions.
  • Experience of MLOps or deploying ML models in production.
  • Familiarity with LLMs incl. open-weights, workflows, evals, agentic approaches.
  • Knowledge of trade, logistics, or supply chain domains.
