The Business Manager is a key member of the CXC Ltd Management Board and is responsible for controlling, managing, enabling, and delivering CXC Ltd’s administrative and financial activities. This is a pivotal leadership role overseeing day-to-day business operations, including HR, finance, personnel support, and wider business services. The role also enables and assures delivery across legal, GDPR/data protection, commercial and contractual activity, security (including vetting), facilities, IT service management, incident management, and welfare in line with company strategy. You will play a central role in setting goals, shaping strategy, and ensuring the business meets its objectives, while continuously improving how we operate. This opportunity is particularly well suited to a former AGC (SPS) SNCO/WO2 or equivalent, bringing strong organisational, leadership, and governance experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a core member of the Operational Management Board (OMB), working closely with the C‑Suite and Board Directors
  • Deliver timely updates, insights, and forecasts to senior leadership
  • Oversee financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, auditing, and reconciliation
  • Ensure compliance with UK legislation, regulations, and best practice
  • Manage key relationships across stakeholders including clients, partners, HMRC, Companies House, solicitors, accountants, MOD, UKSV, and suppliers
  • Maintain critical governance activities including Security Clearance (vetting), Vetting Registers, and Protected Document Registers (PDR)
  • Lead and manage business services including HR support, ICT, apparel, stationery, and facilities
  • Oversee facilities management across company locations (Bristol, Corsham, Swindon)
  • Drive continuous improvement across administrative and operational processes
  • Delivery and maintenance of company induction and policy frameworks

Ways of Working

  • 40 hours per week
  • Office-based in Swindon daily
  • Flexibility required to support business needs (occasional evenings/weekends)
  • TOIL available where appropriate
  • Annual bonus scheme in place

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Relevant qualification (Degree or Level 5 equivalent in Business, CIPD, or Financial Management – or willingness to achieve)
  • Proven leadership and management experience within a business environment
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, communication, and liaison skills
  • Excellent organisational, prioritisation, and time management ability
  • Ability to thrive in a high‑pressure, dynamic environment
  • Strong analytical, research, and data management capability
  • Financial management experience including budgeting, forecasting, ideally using Xero or QuickBooks (QBO)
  • Experience interpreting financial reports and managing audits (including expenses)
  • Experience maintaining governance records (Vetting Registers, PDRs)
  • Knowledge of UK governance frameworks and HMG environment
  • Policy writing experience
  • Strong IT skills, particularly across Microsoft 365
  • Ability to work independently and deliver outcomes
  • High levels of integrity, professionalism, and discretion (SC clearance required)
