This is an opportunity to shape how information is governed within modern collaboration platforms, helping reduce information risk while improving control, consistency and long-term resilience.
This assignment will particularly suit professionals from military, defence, government or other highly regulated environments who understand the importance of structured information management, policy compliance, governance assurance and operational discipline.
The role
You will act as a subject matter expert on information governance and records management within an M365 environment, supporting the design and implementation of practical controls that reduce information and security risk. This is not a highly technical engineering role. The focus is on governance, records management, policy translation and designing practical controls that can be adopted effectively by delivery teams and users.
Key responsibilities
- Act as a subject matter expert on information governance controls across M365
- Support information control design from discovery through to implementation and assurance
- Lead the design of information lifecycle models, including retention and record labelling strategies
- Define governance requirements across M365 applications such as SharePoint, Teams and OneDrive
- Translate policy, legislative and records management requirements into clear and practical designs for technical delivery teams
- Identify information risks, governance gaps and complex retention scenarios, escalating where appropriate
- Support the development of policy, guidance and governance frameworks that embed sustainable information management practices
- Work with stakeholders to improve user behaviours through engagement, training and supporting materials
- Provide assurance and expert advice through programme boards and stakeholder forums
What we’re looking for
We would welcome applications from professionals who can demonstrate experience in several of the following areas:
- Strong knowledge of information and records management principles, including ISO15489
- Strong experience applying information governance controls within Microsoft 365
- Experience designing information lifecycle models, retention approaches and record labelling strategies
- Strong public sector experience, particularly within records management environments
- Ability to interpret policy and governance requirements and translate them into practical delivery designs
- Experience identifying information risk, governance gaps and edge cases in complex operational environments
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills across multidisciplinary teams
Ideal background
This opportunity may be especially relevant to candidates with backgrounds in:
- Armed Forces information management, records governance or operational assurance roles
- Defence knowledge management or information governance functions
- Government records management, compliance or information assurance environments
- Highly regulated organisations where governance, auditability and policy adherence are critical
Professionals who combine structured thinking, sound judgement and practical delivery experience will be particularly well suited.
If you are an experienced information governance professional who can apply records management principles within modern digital platforms and help organisations manage information risk effectively, we would welcome your application.
Please note: due to application limits, early submission is encouraged. Please send CV to Liz Walsh.
