Overview
Supporting a confidential Defence organisation operating at the heart of UK national security, we are seeking an Enterprise Architect to lead complex, organisation‑wide change programmes. This role is tailored for an ex‑military professional with experience in high‑assurance, mission‑critical environments, capable of influencing senior stakeholders, shaping strategy, and guiding technical and organisational decisions at scale. The successful candidate will align business intent with technology, data and operational delivery, ensuring the organisation remains resilient, interoperable and future‑ready.
Key Responsibilities
- Set and own the enterprise architecture direction, ensuring coherence across business, technology and data.
- Translate strategic intent into clear architectural roadmaps, supporting transformation at pace.
- Influence and assure major programmes and portfolios, reducing risk and improving value for money.
- Provide senior architectural leadership across multiple teams and domains.
- Establish and uphold architecture principles, standards and governance.
- Support collaboration across organisational boundaries and external partners.
- Advise decision‑makers on sustainable, reusable and scalable solutions.
- Monitor emerging industry and technology trends, assessing their relevance to Defence outcomes.
- Act as a mentor and leader within the architecture community.
You are likely to bring:
- Experience operating at enterprise or strategic level within Defence, Government, or similarly regulated environments.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including briefing and influencing at senior level.
- Confidence navigating ambiguity, risk and complexity.
- An understanding of how people, process, technology and data interact to deliver outcomes.
- Experience contributing to or leading governance, assurance, or design authorities.
- A collaborative mindset, with the ability to resolve conflict and align diverse teams.
Qualifications (Essential)
- TOGAF or equivalent enterprise architecture qualification.
- ISEB (or equivalent).
Plus one of the following:
- ITIL
- IT4IT
- COBIT
