Overview
Our client is seeking experienced Defence Operations, Supply Chain & Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) Consultants to support a range of mission‑critical defence programmes across the UK. Working within a leading defence consultancy environment, you will provide specialist expertise to projects supporting the full equipment lifecycle—from procurement and capability development through to in‑service support, sustainment, modification, and disposal. This opportunity is ideally suited to ex‑military personnel with experience in operational delivery, logistics, equipment support, supply chain management, or Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), who are looking to transition into consultancy while continuing to support UK Defence.
The Role
Assignments are available across a number of specialist disciplines. You do not need experience in every area—your background will be matched to projects where your skills and experience will add the greatest value.
Operations & Delivery Management
- Coordinate programme delivery across multidisciplinary teams.
- Support governance, reporting, planning, resource management, budgets, and performance.
- Manage project risks, issues, dependencies, and stakeholder engagement.
Supply Chain & Inventory Management
- Support inventory planning, provisioning, supply chain operations, and materiel management.
- Coordinate suppliers, storage, distribution, and demand planning activities.
- Improve supply chain performance and operational efficiency.
Integrated Logistics Support (ILS)
- Develop and maintain Integrated Logistics Support and Through‑Life Support documentation.
- Support reliability, maintainability, technical publications, training, obsolescence management, and transition into service.
- Contribute to sustainable support solutions across complex defence programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate activities across engineering, commercial, project management, finance, operations, logistics, and military stakeholders.
- Translate operational and customer requirements into practical delivery and support solutions.
- Monitor programme performance, schedules, costs, and resources.
- Identify and manage risks, assumptions, opportunities, and dependencies.
- Maintain governance, reporting, and assurance in accordance with Defence and contractual requirements.
- Produce and maintain plans, business cases, support documentation, reports, and Statements of Work.
- Build strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and senior stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to improve delivery, compliance, and value for money.
What We're Looking For
- Active SC Security Clearance*
- Sole UK National*
- Strong experience in one or more of the following:
- Defence operations or programme delivery
- Military logistics
- Supply chain or inventory management
- Integrated Logistics Support (ILS)
- Equipment support or in-service support
- Through‑Life Support
- Experience gained within the Armed Forces, Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S), a defence contractor, consultancy, or another highly regulated environment.
- Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Experience supporting governance, performance reporting, risk management, suppliers, budgets, contracts, or operational data.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Competent in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
Desirable Experience
- Knowledge of DE&S processes, CADMID, MoD logistics policy, defence procurement, or Front Line Command requirements.
- Experience using MoD logistics information systems.
- Knowledge of inventory planning, provisioning, or materiel accounting.
- Experience producing:
- ILS Plans
- Through-Life Management Plans
- Transition-to-Service documentation
- AESPs
- Technical support documentation
- Experience supporting land, maritime, air, or joint‑force equipment programmes.
- Relevant Level 5/6 qualification, degree, or equivalent professional experience.
- Membership of a recognised professional body such as CILT, CIPS, APM, IET, or CMI.
