Our client is a leading demolition and remediation contractor, delivering projects ranging from ÂŁ100k to over ÂŁ20m. This role is for an experienced Transport Manager to lead and manage the DSM Transport Department, ensuring full regulatory compliance while delivering a safe, efficient and reliable transport service to internal teams, clients and stakeholders.
As Transport Manager you will be accountable for managing a diverse fleetâincluding low loaders, hook and tipper wagons, vans and company vehiclesâwhile promoting a strong culture of safety, compliance and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure continuous compliance with Road Transport legislation and Operator Licence requirements.
- Maintain Operator Licence data to the satisfaction of the Office of the Traffic Commissioner and DVSA, including accurate fleet and business data on the Gov.uk platform.
- Manage and enforce company processes and procedures to meet Operator Licence obligations.
- Administer and communicate legislative updates relating to Operator Licence compliance, record keeping, vehicle checks, maintenance and condition reporting.
- Ensure continuous motor insurance compliance across the fleet.
- Deliver and maintain a fitâforâpurpose fleet that prioritises safety, compliance and operational effectiveness.
- Ensure vehicles are serviced in line with manufacturers' recommendations and that LOLER inspections are kept up to date.
- Ensure all vehicles and equipment are maintained in accordance with operating manuals and legal requirements.
- Ensure tachograph recording equipment is inspected, calibrated and compliant within legislative timescales.
- Collate and monitor driver tachograph data using approved analysis software.
- Produce monthly reports detailing drivers' hours and tachograph compliance.
- Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on Operator Licence compliance.
- Promote positive driver behaviour, road risk awareness and a strong safety culture.
- Ensure all transport and fleet employees receive appropriate training, including Driver CPC, within required timescales.
- Deliver transport and fleet safety communications, toolbox talks and briefings.
- Arrange and conduct driver meetings to communicate procedural updates, legislative changes and company initiatives.
- Manage outsourced service providers and thirdâparty suppliers.
- Oversee the asset disposal process.
- Investigate complaints and ensure remedial actions are implemented with timely feedback to complainants.
- Keep Directors and Senior Managers informed of any transport or compliance issues requiring action.
Qualifications & Experience
- Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) (essential).
- Minimum of 3 years' experience as a Transport Manager in a similar operational environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of light and heavy vehicles and associated equipment.
- Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation and best practice.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage at all levels.
- Commercial awareness and a proactive, solutionsâfocused approach.
