Our client is looking for a Senior Service Designer to join their team in either their London or Birmingham office. Candidates must hold a minimum of SC clearance (DV clearance would be preferable). They are a central policing organisation that ensures that a national operational network has the funding, capabilities and resources required to deliver its strategic objectives effectively and to keep the public safe.
The organisation provides national operational coordination, corporate services, and specialist capabilities that support the wider network. It also represents the network within government and to external partners, ensuring its contribution is understood, valued and effective.
Within the organisation, the Digital, Data, Analysis and Technology (DDAT) Directorate leads the use of data and analytical capability across the network and drives the integration of new technology to support strategic outcomes. The Directorate works closely with colleagues across the organisation to ensure technology development, transformation and assurance activities are coherent, lawful, ethical and proportionate, while maintaining public trust.
As a Senior Service Designer, you will play a key role in shaping and delivering service design for a major programme within a high-profile and secure environment. You will work with minimal supervision while mentoring and supporting other designers. You will collaborate closely with the Service Design & Transition Team, programme teams and a wide range of stakeholders to develop service design concepts and ensure successful service transition.
Key Responsibilities- Leading and directing service design activity for major programme work, in collaboration with the Service Design Lead
- Mentoring and providing professional guidance to Service Designers, Junior Service Designers and Service Acceptance colleagues
- Ensuring service design work follows clear, simple and user‑centred approaches that deliver real value
- Clearly documenting design decisions, assumptions and associated risks
- Facilitating effective and consistent communication between users, project teams, service delivery and service operations at all levels
- Championing ITIL 4, Agile ways of working and Continual Service Improvement practices
- Working closely with the Service Transition Team to ensure services are transitioned smoothly and effectively into live operation
- Proven experience designing services to meet user needs
- Strong understanding of service design methods and best practice
- Experience using data and user feedback to design and improve services
- Experience taking designs through to live, operational services
- A design practitioner with working knowledge of related disciplines such as user research, UX and interaction design
- Experience mentoring, coaching or guiding colleagues
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments
- Knowledge and practical experience of ITIL 4
- Knowledge and experience of Agile methodologies
- Knowledge and experience of PRINCE2 and/or other project delivery frameworks
- A good understanding of IT infrastructure layers and common deployment models
- Ability to prioritise work, make sound decisions and operate effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience designing services within the public sector
- Experience managing or leading teams
- ITIL v4 certification (or v3 with conversion)
- Experience working in secure or regulated environments
- Candidates must hold security clearance or be eligible to obtain it
- Candidates must be eligible and willing to undergo enhanced vetting
- Sole UK nationality is required for this role
