Are you leaving the Armed Forces or coming from a strong mechanical or technical background and looking to move into the expanding building systems, controls, and commissioning sector? This is an excellent opportunity to train as a BMS (Building Management Systems) Commissioning Engineer, working on live sites and learning a highly in-demand skillset within building services and controls engineering. No previous BMS experience is required; attitude, discipline, and technical aptitude matter most.
The Role
- Support the delivery of on-site engineering projects, working under experienced Project and Technical Managers.
- Combine hands-on technical work, system testing, fault-finding, and coordination with wider site teams.
- Typical duties include:
- Carrying out pre-commissioning checks on mechanical and electrical installations.
- Loading and testing control software on BMS controllers.
- Verifying equipment operation against system requirements.
- Identifying, reporting, and assisting with rectification of faults.
- Completing commissioning records and reports.
- Supporting system demonstrations and handovers to clients.
- Working with multiple trades to help close out site issues efficiently.
- Ensuring accurate documentation and software backups are maintained.
Full training and mentoring will be provided as you develop your commissioning and controls knowledge.
Who This Role Is Ideal For
- Military veterans (REME, RAF Technicians, Royal Navy/Marine Engineers, Submariners, Avionics, Weapons or Plant trades).
- Individuals with a strong mechanical, electrical, or engineering foundation, and HVAC experience would also be highly desirable but not essential.
- Those comfortable working on-site, following procedures, and taking responsibility.

Please note, experienced BMS Engineers can get salaries at £55k+. This is a field-based role, and they are looking for individuals who would be happy to work away from their home Mon – Fri for extended periods during the year as their clients are based across the UK and some sites can take a couple of months to get fully functional.
