Structured Cabling Engineer – Data & Fibre (308jc) – Kent & South East England - £30–£35k per annum (depending on experience) + Benefits Our client is an established and respected engineering services organisation specialising in the installation, maintenance and delivery of structured cabling and communications infrastructure solutions. Operating across a variety of commercial, industrial and technically demanding environments, the company has developed a reputation for delivering high-quality engineering services to customers throughout the UK. Due to continued demand for its services, our client is seeking an experienced and motivated Structured Cabling Engineer to join its engineering team, covering Kent and the surrounding South East region. This opportunity could be particularly attractive to individuals with a background in communications, telecommunications, electronics or technical engineering, who are looking to develop their careers within the civilian engineering sector. The Role Working as part of an established engineering team, you will be responsible for installing, terminating, testing and maintaining copper and fibre-optic structured cabling systems across a range of customer sites. The position offers considerable variety, with projects taking place in commercial premises, industrial facilities, data centres and other technically demanding environments. Depending on your experience, you may also become involved in site surveys, project coordination, technical documentation and customer liaison. Key Responsibilities - Installation, termination and testing of Cat6, Cat6a and fibre-optic cabling systems. - Installation of internal and external copper and fibre cabling infrastructure. - Installation of cable containment systems, including conduit, trunking, cable trays and baskets. - Fault-finding, diagnostics and rectification of structured cabling systems. - Installation of associated communications equipment, including wireless access points and UPS units. - Ensuring all installations meet relevant technical, quality and safety standards. - Working in accordance with risk assessments, method statements and site-specific procedures. - Completing accurate installation records, testing documentation and project reports. - Liaising professionally with customers and other contractors on site. - Supporting project delivery and occasionally travelling or staying overnight when required. For candidates with more extensive experience, responsibilities may also include overseeing site activities, conducting technical surveys, preparing risk assessments and method statements, and coordinating project delivery. The Ideal Candidate Our client is looking for a practical, technically competent engineer who takes pride in delivering work to a high standard. Essential Requirements: - Previous technical experience and a sound understanding of copper and fibre-optic cabling installations. - Knowledge of structured cabling systems and associated installation practices. - CSCS or ECS site card. - Relevant industry training, including IPAF and PASMA. - Full UK driving licence. - Ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team. - Good communication and customer-facing skills. - A professional, organised and safety-conscious approach. - Flexibility to travel throughout the region, with occasional overnight stays. Desirable Experience: - Three or more years' experience in structured cabling installations. - CNET Certified Network Cable Installer (CNCI) qualification. - Previous experience working in secure, industrial or technically demanding environments. - Existing SC security clearance or the ability to obtain clearance. - Knowledge of JSP 453 and relevant TEMPEST/security requirements. - Experience of undertaking site surveys, preparing technical documentation or supervising installation projects. The ideal candidate would be someone from probably a comms background in the military or who have moved into this sector after leaving the service, please note that they are seeking individuals who have a commercial installation background and not one that has only worked for BT Openreach to consumer time installations.
