We’re looking for an experienced Portfolio Product Owner to join an innovative technology organisation delivering secure, critical software into Defence, Government and security-conscious environments. Permanent role with predominantly remote working (fortnightly travel to Midlands).

This is a high-impact role sitting between customers, engineering and product strategy, translating complex requirements into clear priorities and ensuring products evolve in line with operational needs, technology developments and market opportunity. The role could be particularly well suited to an ex-military professional with experience across digital technology, communications, cyber, information systems, capability management, requirements or programme delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and manage product backlogs, translating portfolio objectives into clear, actionable requirements for engineering.
  • Define and communicate Product Goals, priorities and delivery objectives across Agile and non-Agile teams.
  • Work closely with engineering to support technical decisions, clarify requirements and facilitate delivery estimates.
  • Own the end-to-end product release process, including requirements, planning, documentation, deployment and acceptance.
  • Develop product delivery plans, forecasts and regular updates for senior stakeholders.
  • Manage product and component lifecycles, including third-party technology changes, supplier updates and end-of-life activity.
  • Maintain accurate Bills of Materials and ensure product information remains current.
  • Engage directly with customers to understand operational needs, gather feedback and shape priorities.
  • Champion products through customer presentations, demonstrations and market-facing product material.
  • Work collaboratively with portfolio leadership to align product roadmaps, customer requirements and wider business strategy.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, Requirements Manager or similar within software/technology.
  • Strong experience managing backlogs and working with engineering teams, preferably in Agile environments.
  • An understanding of cyber security, secure information exchange, cloud or information assurance, or the ability to develop this quickly.
  • Experience in Defence, Government, National Security or another high-assurance environment is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to engage engineers, customers and senior leaders.
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills, with a genuine sense of ownership.
  • Existing or achievable SC Security Clearance.
