A flexible opportunity to make a real commercial impact. Are you an experienced Business Development professional with strong construction-sector contacts? Or, perhaps you're an ex-military / emergency services professional with the network, confidence and commercial instinct to develop new business?
We are working with a growing specialist services business looking for a Business Development Manager to help build its commercial pipeline and secure new contracts across the UK. This is initially a 20-hour-per-week, part-time opportunity, making it potentially ideal for an experienced professional looking for greater flexibility, a parent returning to or balancing work, or a Service Leaver looking to build a civilian career alongside further study or other commitments. There is genuine potential for the role to develop into full-time as new business is won.
This is a hands-on BD role where you'll have the freedom to build the function and make your mark. You'll identify target organisations, establish the right contacts, develop relationships and take opportunities through to tender and contract award. The business provides specialist services including medical/rescue support, fire & rescue, confined-space services, site shutdowns and closures, specialist training and related safety services. The immediate focus is on the UK construction and industrial sectors, including large construction projects, quarries, waste & energy and other environments involving significant infrastructure and machinery.
What You'll Do
- Identify and research new target organisations.
- Develop relationships with key decision-makers.
- Leverage existing networks and industry contacts to generate opportunities.
- Understand customer requirements and identify where the business can add value.
- Develop opportunities from initial contact through to tender and contract.
- Build and manage a healthy sales pipeline.
- Research companies and identify the right people to approach.
- Help shape the company's wider BD strategy and growth.
- Attend customer meetings and industry events where required.
We're particularly interested in someone who already understands the construction sector and has an established network within larger construction organisations. You could come from:
- Business Development / Sales
- Construction or infrastructure
- Specialist industrial services
- Defence / military
- Fire & rescue
- Emergency services
- Medical / rescue services
Traditional sales experience isn't essential if you have the right network, commercial mindset and ability to build trusted relationships. Former military personnel and Service Leavers are actively encouraged to apply. Your ability to build relationships, operate independently, remain resilient and get things done can translate extremely well into this role.
This isn't a corporate BD position where you'll simply inherit a sales territory. You'll have the opportunity to build the commercial function from the ground up, with direct access to the business owner and the autonomy to develop your own strategy, relationships and pipeline. You'll receive support with company systems, LinkedIn, website activity and tenders, but you'll be trusted to take ownership and make things happen.
Please send a copy of your CV with a note outlining why this would be the ideal opportunity for you to Liz Walsh at Ex-Mil Recruitment Ltd.
