Our client is looking for an Armourer who has experience with large-calibre weapons.

Role Purpose

To lead and supervise the safe, compliant, and effective maintenance, operation, testing, and evaluation of Small Arms, Medium Calibre, and Large Calibre weapon systems. The postholder will ensure adherence to engineering governance, safety, security, and regulatory requirements while delivering high-quality technical outputs in support of weapons capability development, trials, and evaluation activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise maintenance, fault diagnosis, repair, and operation of small, medium, and large calibre weapon systems.
  • Conduct and oversee preventative, corrective, and scheduled maintenance activities.
  • Support Test & Evaluation (T&E) programmes, trials, and weapon capability development activities.
  • Ensure compliance with EMERs, AESPs, JSPs, Section 5 regulations, and all applicable engineering and safety standards.
  • Manage weapon security, storage, inventory control, and associated records.
  • Collect, analyse, and report technical and trial data to support informed decision-making.
  • Provide technical guidance and best-practice advice on maintenance procedures and fault rectification.
  • Coach, mentor, and supervise team members, promoting a culture of safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Support customer, stakeholder, and project engagement activities.
  • Challenge unsafe behaviours and ensure Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) are consistently applied.

Essential Knowledge & Experience

  • Proven experience maintaining, fault-finding, repairing, and operating large calibre weapon systems.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical weapon systems, ordnance engineering principles, and workshop practices.
  • Experience supporting weapon trials, test and evaluation activities, and technical reporting.
  • Sound knowledge of engineering documentation, including EMERs, AESPs, JSPs, technical drawings, and maintenance instructions.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments and implementing safe systems of work.
  • Knowledge of weapon security requirements, including Section 5 regulations and controlled stores management.
  • Competent in the use of maintenance management systems, technical records, and IT-based reporting tools.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience, including coaching, mentoring, and developing personnel.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Highly Desirable Experience

  • Experience with 105 mm and 155 mm artillery weapon systems, ammunition, and associated support equipment.
  • Experience maintaining, operating, testing, or supporting artillery platforms and firing systems.
  • Experience with Naval Gun Systems, Naval Ammunition, and maritime weapon support activities.
  • Knowledge of artillery and naval ordnance handling, storage, transportation, and safety requirements.
  • Previous military, defence industry, weapons engineering, armourer, artillery, naval weapons, or Test & Evaluation experience.
