- 14:15 – 14:45 Shifting mindsets towards a more responsible and circular relationship with surgical robots
Robotic surgery is often praised for improving patient outcomes, but what about its environmental impact? While robotic surgery offers benefits like greater precision and faster recovery times, it also generates significant waste and emissions. In this session, you will discover how a transdisciplinary team—including social scientists, surgeons, engineers, designers, and artists—is tackling this challenge from unexpected angles. How does the team combine Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Social Impact Analysis, True Cost Analysis (TCA), technical evaluation, and a visual artwork (by Maria Koijck) to drive meaningful change?
