An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Product Design Engineer to join an established engineering and manufacturing business developing innovative products for commercial applications. This role would suit a Mechanical Design Engineer with experience in product development, 3D CAD and manufacturing who enjoys taking products from concept through to production. Working within a collaborative engineering team, you'll be involved in the full product development lifecycle, contributing to both new product introduction (NPI) and the continuous improvement of existing products.

The Role
As a Product Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and development of new and existing products. Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks
- Producing detailed 2D manufacturing drawings and engineering documentation
- Supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) projects from concept through to production
- Developing practical, cost-effective design solutions that meet customer and manufacturing requirements
- Working closely with manufacturing, procurement and commercial teams during product development
- Producing and maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Supporting prototype development, product testing and validation activities
- Identifying opportunities for product improvement, cost reduction and enhanced manufacturability
- Applying Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles throughout the design process
- Investigating new materials, technologies and manufacturing methods to support future product development
About You
We're looking for a motivated engineer with a passion for product design and continuous improvement. You'll ideally have:
- Degree, HND or HNC in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Design Engineering or a related discipline
- Experience using SolidWorks or another 3D CAD package such as Creo, Inventor, Siemens NX or Solid Edge
- Experience designing products for manufacture within an engineering or manufacturing environment
- Understanding of sheet metal, fabricated components, plastic mouldings or mechanical assemblies
- Knowledge of engineering drawings, GD&T and manufacturing processes
- Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) or product development projects
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team
Knowledge of electrical design or electromechanical products would be advantageous but is not essential.
