An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Product Design Engineer to join an established engineering and manufacturing business developing innovative products for commercial applications. This role would suit a Mechanical Design Engineer with experience in product development, 3D CAD and manufacturing who enjoys taking products from concept through to production. Working within a collaborative engineering team, you'll be involved in the full product development lifecycle, contributing to both new product introduction (NPI) and the continuous improvement of existing products.

The Role

As a Product Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and development of new and existing products. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks
  • Producing detailed 2D manufacturing drawings and engineering documentation.
  • Supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) projects from concept through to production.
  • Developing practical, cost-effective design solutions that meet customer and manufacturing requirements.
  • Working closely with manufacturing, procurement and commercial teams during product development.
  • Producing and maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Supporting prototype development, product testing and validation activities.
  • Identifying opportunities for product improvement, cost reduction and enhanced manufacturability.
  • Applying Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles throughout the design process.
  • Investigating new materials, technologies and manufacturing methods to support future product development.
About You

We're looking for a motivated engineer with a passion for product design and continuous improvement. You'll ideally have:

  • Degree, HND or HNC in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Design Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience using SolidWorks or another 3D CAD package such as Creo, Inventor, Siemens NX or Solid Edge.
  • Experience designing products for manufacture within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of sheet metal, fabricated components, plastic mouldings or mechanical assemblies.
  • Knowledge of engineering drawings, GD&T and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) or product development projects.
  • Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.

Knowledge of electrical design or electromechanical products would be advantageous but is not essential.
