We are currently recruiting for an experienced Scientist I (Biologics & Assays) to join our Protein Sciences Team.

Purpose of the Role

Responsible execution of work plans for their protein science area. Accountable for delivery from early drug discovery workflows in their area of expertise.

Key Accountabilities

  • Execution of approved work plans in early drug discovery projects.
  • Provide recommendations for improving work plans for review and approval by Grade 5 or above.
  • Responsible for supporting more than one project across modalities and therapeutic areas.
  • Will be expected to deliver timely, accurate results of pre‑agreed quality to project specifications.
  • May conduct some data analysis ahead of internal review prior to release to internal or external customers.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Technical knowledge of Protein Biochemistry, Structural Biology or Biophysics with a proven ability to deliver results across target families within agreed timelines and budget, meeting agreed quality criteria.
  • Design and engineer recombinant proteins, antibodies and biologics using advanced molecular biology techniques.
  • Express proteins in bacterial, mammalian, and insect systems with optimised yield and quality.
  • Purify proteins using automated chromatography platforms (ÄKTA; affinity, ion‑exchange, SEC).
  • Characterise proteins with biophysical and biochemical methods (CE, plate‑based assays, DLS, nDSF, HPLC).
  • Troubleshoot expression and purification challenges, applying creative problem‑solving to refine workflow.
  • Understanding of scientific and technical background of experiments.
  • Experience of precise execution of workplans.
  • Expected to have some independence, making day‑to‑day technical decisions.
  • Expected to follow training provided on the correct use and maintenance of lab equipment.

Education and Qualifications

PhD or a degree with corresponding experience in a relevant scientific discipline ideally with relevant experience within industry.

Benefits Package

Pension on completion (but not subject to) of your 3‑month probationary period. Contributions 5% for employees (salary sacrifice) and 5% for the employer. The employee can opt to increase their contribution, and the employer will match the increase up to a maximum of 7.5%. 25 days holiday plus.
