We are actively recruiting for an experienced EHS Specialist to join our EHS team in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.
Reporting to the Head of EHS (UK), this role supports our vision for an effective, contemporary, and progressive Health, Safety and Environmental strategy for the Abingdon site. The role is part of a wider EHS Team and supports a wide variety of business functions and activities.

Key Responsibilities
ISO14001 Management
- Implement, maintain and develop the company’s Environmental Management System (EMS) in accordance with ISO14001 standards.
- Conduct regular internal audits to ensure compliance with ISO14001 requirements and prepare for external audits.
- Ensure continued certification to ISO14001.
- Identify non-conformances and develop corrective action plans to address and prevent recurrence.
Environment Agency Permits
- Manage and maintain compliance with all relevant Environment Agency permits.
- Ensure that processes and procedures are written and enacted to fulfil the requirements of the permits.
- Prepare and submit permit applications, modifications, and renewals.
- Monitor and report on compliance status, ensuring all operations adhere to permit conditions.
- Act as primary contact with the Environment Agency for all visits and correspondence.
Environmental Compliance & Reporting
- Keep abreast of environmental legislation and regulations to ensure the company’s compliance.
- Compile and submit environmental reports to regulatory bodies as required.
Sustainability and Environmental Initiatives
- Support sustainability projects aimed at reducing the company’s environmental footprint.
- Work with cross-functional teams to implement environmental improvement initiatives.
- Promote awareness and engagement in sustainability practices among employees.
Data Management & Analysis
- Collect, analyze, and report environmental data, including waste management, energy usage, and emissions.
- Use data insights to drive environmental performance improvements.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date environmental records and documentation.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise with external stakeholders, including regulatory authorities, industry bodies, and local communities.
- Communicate environmental performance and initiatives to internal and external stakeholders.
- Chair the Evotec Environmental Committee.
Qualifications & Experience
- IEMA Environmental Management qualification.
- Environmental & Health & Safety experience.
- Familiarity with PSM, GMP, UK regulations, COSHH, and ISO 4001
- Experience working in an ISO 14001 Environmental Management system.
- Practical experience of health and safety activities within an API manufacturing, pharmaceutical, chemical production setting
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Ability to contribute to emergency response planning and implement corrective and preventive measures.
