Role Purpose
We are seeking an experienced shift engineer with a mechanical bias to join our maintenance team in Stafford. The successful shift engineer will be responsible for completing planned preventative and reactive maintenance tasks across buildings, plant, and production equipment, with a clear focus on mechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on buildings, plant, and production equipment as a shift engineer with a mechanical bias
- Work as part of a two-person team on the required shift pattern
- Participate in the on-call rota
- Diagnose and repair mechanical faults efficiently and safely
- Ensure all works are completed in line with Method Statements and Risk Assessments
- Support the Manager and Supervisor in supervising engineering subcontractors, ensuring compliance with contractual and site operating processes
- Develop effective working relationships
- Accurately complete logbooks, shift handover documentation, and client reports
- Demonstrate flexibility to work overtime when required
- Identify and report hazards and implement appropriate control measures
- Issue and manage Permit to Work systems and ensure compliance with LOTO procedures
- Act as a proactive, safety-focused shift engineer within the maintenance team
Person Specification / Requirements
- Proven experience working as a shift engineer within a mechanically biased maintenance environment
- Comprehensive mechanical experience, including reactive and planned preventative maintenance
- Excellent mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- Experience in multi-skilled disciplines (pipe fitting, welding, steam boilers, electrical, fabric, water hygiene, painting, carpentry) is desirable
- Strong understanding of health & safety obligations related to maintenance activities
- Ability to learn and develop both technical knowledge and site-specific systems
- Calm and professional approach, able to work under pressure
- Strong organisational and planning skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team with minimal supervision
- Customer-focused shift engineer committed to delivering excellent service
