Evolve Staffing Ltd. is actively seeking highly experienced, adaptable, and dedicated Band 5 Registered Theatre Nurses (RGN) with specialist clinical experience in Anaesthetics to join operating department teams across a flagship major NHS acute hospital trust based in Cheshire. Operating within one of Cheshire's primary major NHS acute hospital facilities—a comprehensive tertiary surgical environment featuring multi-specialty operating theatre suites compared to single-department maternity or ward settings—this role provides exceptional flexibility and top-tier pay rates for experienced perioperative nurses who excel in high-acuity surgical environments.

As a Theatre Nurse specializing in Anaesthetics representing Evolve Staffing Ltd., you will work as an integral clinical professional alongside consultant anaesthetists, operating department practitioners (ODPs), surgical teams, and theatre managers to deliver safe, evidence-based, and compassionate pre-operative, intraoperative, and post-operative care across a diverse range of elective, emergency, and trauma surgical lists. Whether you are deeply skilled in preparing modern anaesthetic workstations, managing complex airway emergencies, assisting with regional nerve blocks, or supporting general inpatient ward transitions, this vacancy offers an ideal pathway to flexible agency shifts within one of the North West's flagship healthcare facilities.

Key Responsibilities & Clinical Duties

As a Band 5 Theatre Nurse with Anaesthetic experience, your primary responsibility is to ensure maximum patient safety, precise airway control, and seamless clinical support to the anaesthetist before, during, and immediately following surgical procedures. Your day-to-day duties across operating suites and inpatient care pathways will encompass:

  • Anaesthetic Workstation & Machine Mastery
    • Safety Checks: Performing pre-use safety checks on advanced anaesthetic workstations, ventilators, vaporizers, breathing circuits, and scavenging systems.
    • Equipment Prep: Preparing, checking, and maintaining specialized equipment for general, regional (spinal, epidural, nerve blocks), and local anaesthesia.
    • Airway Readiness: Ensuring complete operational readiness of difficult airway trolleys, fibreoptic broncho-scopes, videolaryngoscopes, and intubation equipment.
  • Airway Management & Anaesthetic Assistance
    • Induction Support: Assisting the Consultant Anaesthetist during induction, maintenance, and emergence from general anaesthesia across elective and emergency cases.
    • Emergency Airway: Executing skilled clinical support during Rapid Sequence Induction (RSI), difficult airway management, and emergency resuscitation.
    • Drug Safety: Preparing, double-checking, and labeling critical anaesthetic drugs, analgesics, muscle relaxants, and IV fluids per NMC guidelines.
  • Physiological Monitoring & Perioperative Safety
    • Vital Sign Monitoring: Applying and monitoring invasive and non-invasive equipment, including ECG, NIBP, pulse oximetry, capnography ($EtCO_2$), and arterial lines.
    • Patient Positioning: Managing patient positioning safely to prevent nerve injury, pressure ulcers, and anatomical strain while maintaining dignity.
    • WHO Checklist: Participating actively in the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist (Sign In, Time Out, Sign Out) and maintaining accurate intraoperative records.

Candidate Requirements & Qualifications

  • Professional Registration: Active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Registered Adult Nurse (RNA) with a recognized Anaesthetic Module qualification or proven competency.
  • Clinical Experience: Minimum of 6–12 months post-qualification experience within NHS Operating Theatres supporting general, orthopaedic, trauma, urology, gynaecology, or emergency surgical lists.
  • Clinical Competence: Proven expertise in airway support, anaesthetic machine checking, rapid sequence induction, regional block setup, and emergency resuscitation protocols.
  • Compliance Standards:
    • Valid Right to Work in the United Kingdom.
    • Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate registered on the Update Service.
    • Full occupational health clearance, including verified immunity against Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Tuberculosis, and Varicella.
    • Two satisfactory professional clinical references covering the last 3 years of nursing practice.
